Q:

I recently moved from Germany to Thailand. Altough my Internet access is generally good, I now perceive high latencies with GW2, around 300ms, which makes the game unplayable for PvP.

I have read that for users in Asia, it is recommended to play on US servers. I would like to try out, if my latencies are better on a US server, but if it will roughly be the same, I would not want to change my server. Can somebody tell me if there is a chance of getting maybe around 100ms on a US server?

Is there a possibility to try out a US server, only for some hours, and going back to my old server, if the latency is not better, without paying twice for a transfer?

Now I have also heard that GW2 is in close beta in China. Would it be possible for me to transfer to a chinese server? I have checked the related chinese web pages, but I do not speak chinese, and could not find a way to change the language on them. Also another question: Will it be possible to play in China with english language settings?

Thank you,
Oliver

I’m from SEA and am playing on NA Server. Technically, the internet SUCKS in my country but with a good provider I can play well enough without having to worry about lag. Possibly a delay of mere milliseconds that I hardly notice.

Thailand has better internet than we do so moving to NA would be a nice idea.

And, IMHO, since the China server is a totally different server I think account transfers are not possible. But that’s my opinion, I think it’d be best to hear it from ANet.

The only way to play on another server, at this time, is to either transfer, or purchase another account.

You can transfer at no cost by deleting all your characters, or if you prefer to keep your characters, with a Gem cost. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World#Transferring

The Chinese client and the NA/EU client are completely separate; there is no way to transfer your account between the two.

Good luck.

There is no option for English on the Chinese servers; I heard that it’s a legal restriction they have there. A dev mentioned it in-game awhile back.

Also I think everyone else is right about the inability to transfer. They way I understand it is that a Chinese company is paying ArenaNet for the rights to run GW2 there. So you’d have to have a China-specific copy of the game in order to play on their servers. I’ve seen the same thing happen with other American games that launch in China.

To requote what someone else said in case you did not read it:

He/she was saying that yes your ping will likely not be a problem were you to transfer to a US server.

Yes, but I already tried it out. The lag is significant. After I select a spell, the delay until the actual execution of it is very well recognizable. The latency is around 400ms.
