Thanks for letting me know. How did you try to purchase? Credit card? PayPal? Are you still having the issue?
I want you all to be assured I’m escalating these reports to relevant GW2 team members to let them know about them.
I am escalating these reports to the teams who work most closely with our Gem Store.
Now, if you’re experiencing a delay with PayPal, that’s a known issue that we are still trying to get resolved. If you’re having difficulty with not being able to purchase through PayPal at all (even after waiting several hours to see the order arrive), or if you are not able to purchase through a CC that you know is valid and good to go, that’s a different matter.
I will post if I learn more about this, but in the meantime, thank you for your reports and for your patience!

Thank you for your quick response, I have wait 24 hours and tried to use gem store with Paypal and CC (i check and it’s fully valid) as you said. They both still not working, i concern that i wont able to buy gems for Character Slot . Is there any other way to buy gems?

I was using my credit card. I’ve read the other threads similar to this and am keeping an eye on my bank account. I just tried again, and I am still having this same message pop up, and none of the transactions from last night completed, either.

I am also having the same problem as listed above. Started last night for me, and I still can’t purchase gems with the same Error popping up. I’m using a Credit Card to make my purchase. Thanks, hope this gets fixed before the sales end. If not, would it be possible to extend the sales? Because of this error?

I’m also having the same issue (I posted in another thread with same topic) and my problem is with a CC not paypal. The purchase isn’t going through with the same error telling me to try again later. So far, I have not been charged for attempting a few times. But I hope this gets fixed before sales end. Thanks for all your help Gaile
I am having this Issue as well purchasing via CC. even sent in a ticket and got replied by support team. did what they said, but sadly no results.

The same thing happened with me after I tried purchasing gems. However so far I have received none and I am still attempting to make a purchase with the error message still appearing, if it is how some people say and they receive the gems some time later does that mean I have purchased them as well? But I tried like 8 times will they charge me for those 8 times? If they do would I be able to contact customer support and get my money back? I’m willing to spend 10 dollars now, not really 80!
The Support Team always works quickly to assist any players that have inadvertently been charged more than they intended to purchase. =)
And why should I bother trying now. Was unable to buy gems for the discounted character slot before the sale ended. Guess I missed my chance. sigh
And the reply from support wasn’t much help either. “Try with a verified card (mine is, always has worked. same card, bought gems with it on Tuesday) or use Paypal (which we all know is having problems right now).” Oh well… maybe next anniversary.

Same issue, ticket just keeps getting auto answers was looking for self help.
Any workarounds apart from buying a paysafecard – which i ended up doing but the denominations are wrong and you end up with a voucher with 5 euros on it u cant then use or merge.

I’m having the exact same issue as WhiteWolf. Using a credit card and it tells me to try again later, but every time I try, no matter how long I wait, I get the same message.

You can contact CS by clicking ‘Support’ at the top of this page, then at the top right of that page, click ‘Submit a Request’. Make sure to choose something from both ‘drop-down’ menus on the webform, to avoid an error.

I cant buy gems right now with my credit card (I dont use Paypal)
tried 2 different cards so I know its not the issue.
I get a “unfortunately an error has occured , try again later” every time.

I just want to buy the grenth hood, any chance anet will keep these in the store for a while to make up for this somewhat common issue?

I’ve been getting this error for 4 days now. Really hoping this issue is resolved on monday when more Anet staff is available. I’m going to be extremely disappointed if I can’t buy anything from this 10-day anniversary sale.

I think the best thing for you to do is to submit an individual ticket so that the team can look at your personal situation and help you make the purchase(s) you desire.

Provide as much information as possible in the web form, because that will create a ticket within the support system. You are not required to provide all the information but may leave fields blank when you cannot accurately complete them. The team should be able to help you.
As you’re probably aware, there were some external incidents late last week, and they may have caused some of these problems. And yet, I’m seeing that these posts are as recent as this morning. Therefore, having received a very detailed response from the team that manages our Gem Store where they looked into the matter and were not able to identify a systemic issue, I think the best thing for you to do is to submit an individual ticket so that the team can look at your personal situation and help you make the purchase(s) you desire.

I should add that according to the team, there haven’t been issues with people getting the “try again” message and getting charged for the purchase. So if you get the “try again” message, you can be confident that you do need to resubmit the purchase and that you will not be double-charged (and double gemmed ).
Remember, by some odd chance you do get more gems than you intended, set them aside (don’t spend them) and submit a ticket. The Payments Team will ensure you get a refund after they’ve retrieved the gems that processed in error.

Also getting the “Unfortunately and error has occurred. Please try again later.” message when trying to buy gems with a cc, that I have successfully used in the past to purchase gems. I’ll also send a ticket, just wanted to add my voice to the list here.
I have had several issues with trying to buy anything through PayPal. I have submitted tickets and talked directly with both PayPal AND ArenaNet and BOTH customer service reps for both companies have told me that the issue is not with their system and that it has to be with the other company. I wanted to buy another account before it goes back to full price, but cannot because the “purchase process did not complete”.
I never had this problem before (last year) when the PayPal transactions serviced for GW2 were processed through NCSoft. Ever since ArenaNet went with DRI (Digital River, Inc) I have had PayPal payment issues.
I’ve been having the same problem with CC for the past couple days. I submitted a ticket and they gave me a suggestion on how to fix it but it doesn’t work. I really wanted the extra character slot as well… They haven’t responded really since I told them that their suggestion didn’t solve the problem.

I think there is enough posts here now about people who cant purchase gems to take this more seriously,

So at this point, there is really nothing further you or I would be able to do to get this working. The issue appears to be intermittent with respect to affected accounts, but is occurring system-wide. This has reported to the developers and engineers so they can have a go at it. Hopefully a solution can be reached, but I don’t expect to hear anything back before tomorrow.

Thanks to previous reports of this issue, we’ve been able to determine that our billing system provider has had a processing problem that has prevented some players from making a Gem Store purchase. Quite honestly, it was pretty hard to find what was going on, which is why for a few days we were not able to confirm exactly what was causing the issue, and we did wonder if the problems were unique to individual players. At this time, the provider is actively working on a fix and we hope to have this all ironed out very soon. I’d suggest that you do not need to submit a ticket, but you may do so if you wish.
I will update you as soon as I have more information. In the meantime, please accept our apologies and our sincere thanks for your (attempted) support of our game through Gem Store. We hope you’ll make that purchase as soon as the problem is worked out.

I too cannot purchase gems via credit card. Whilst I understand that you guys are trying your best to fix the problem, I’m concerned that myself and others in my situation will miss out on “Limited Time” items and sales that are currently in the gems store. If you cant fix the problem soon do we simply miss out?
Note they didn’t say it was fixed yet. It’s now in a third party’s hand.

Odd bit of information about gem purchasing issues. I have a second account, so decided to experiment. I could buy gems on my 2nd account with the same CC that I get the error message on trying to buy gems for my primary account. The only difference is my primary is Gunner’s Hold, and secondary is Yak’s Bend. Curiouser and curiouser. (Yes, I did update my ticket with this additional information.)

I really want to purchase gems today because I want to support ANet for helping me and that I want the limited edition Headgears.
If the gemstore is going to take long, may I request that the limited edition headgear be extended?
Ok, here’s what I learned: The Second Anniversary 10-Day Sale presents different items on different days. But that doesn’t mean they’re offered for one day only. That means that one item may be introduced on Tuesday, a different item may come out on Thursday, but both items will be available through the conclusion of the sale. (You can check the Gem Store to see that things like Character Slots are still on sale, and were not offered only on a single day.)
The 10-day sale began on August 22, so doing the math means it will end on August 31st. So if you have had difficulties using your credit card or paying through PayPal, you should be able to make the purchase now or as soon as your CC is enabled by Support. From what I have learned, our billing provider is working on a fix that should address this for the few folks who are continuing to have issues.
I received notice on my ticket that the matter has been resolves. Lo and behold, I’m able to buy gems. Thanks to Support for getting this straitened out!
