Unable to initialize 3D output.
You might try the driver before the latest. Sometimes games lag a bit behind new drivers. I’m not really up on Nvidia drivers anymore, as I’m using AMD at present.
You could also try a -repair of the client, just in case of corrupted file(s). Top of Page – Support – Search (Repair)
You can submit a Tech Support ticket and ask for assistance. Top of Page – Support – Submit a Request.
Good luck.
I am having this issue as well, and cannot seem to get it fixed. Any help?

“=DirectX is up to date” as in you are using dx11 or you manually installed Directx 9.0c yourself?
I get this message ONLY when trying to open GW2 from RadeonPro, which GW2 absolutely refuses to work with unless I Disable API Monitoring, which is basically the same as disabling all of the features of RadeonPro.
When I just open from anywhere else on my computer (Steam, desktop icon, etc) GW2 runs with no problems.
I’m just getting this problem, as is my husband on his computer also, when the game was running fine last night & has been since we installed it.
Was there ever any fix to this??
Even if you have DirectX 11, you must install DirectX9 because it is separate.
It is here:

And now I’m suddenly getting this error when the game was running fine last week. Reinstalling DirectX9 has not worked to fix the problem.
Edit: I fixed the problem by rolling back my video driver.

Thats mostly the fix for that error. Worked already 10 years ago in Diablo 2 .. lol
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
I’m having this exact problem this morning … guild wars had a short update, clicked play, then BAM!
“Unable to initialize 3D output. Please verify that you have installed DirectX 9 and an updated video driver.”
i can say i was playing for hours last night with absolutely no problems ! cant see how rolling my driver back would fix anything as it was perfect last night !
is this maybe a patch Bug, or how on earth do i fix it ! .. really not to great with PC’s and this isn’t easy!

Windows 10 also had an update today. The issue with Windows 10, there will be times you have no idea it happened, which can match up with patches in games.
yep, just built a new computer, windows 7, i76700, with built in intel hd 5300 graphics.
my other machine runs gw2 fine with the same video card, and an earlier i7 processor.
the compatibility issues, bugs, and ubiquitous inescapable advertisements are so annoying on windows. can you please just build a linux port?
i downloaded all the direct x links i could find, i ran automatic updates. windows 10 is getting errors when i try to install it (even though i prefer 7 i thought maybe 10 would work better), so i can’t.
please? i paid for guild wars 2, i paid for windows 7. why do i get no support, and advertisements, and a bunch of bugs and issues?
please make a linux port.
