Guild Wars 2

Windows had an update and now I am getting:

“Unable to initialize 3D output. Please verify that you have installed DirectX 9 and an updated video driver.”

I’ve since re-installed a “clean install” of my NVIDIA GTX 970 Graphics drivers, DirectX 12, and I ran the client repair tool for gw2. I then restarted my computer to make sure everything had completely installed and I am still receiving the error. I also managed my 3D settings to “Maximum Performance” for GW2 and Global Settings.

I have not uninstalled the latest windows update yet.

Did the latest windows update break my game client? Or is there something else I should be trying?

I Had to completely remove the game and game directory then reinstall the client to finally solve the issue.

I am also unable to play GW2 since the last windows update. I also have NVIDIA GTX 970 Graphics drivers. My problem is that I am unable to turn off the stereoscopic rendering.

Solved my problem. I have turned off the stereoscopic rendering at the graphics driver rather than in the GW2 options window.

Mine is already off from R click on desktop, select NVIDIA control panel under stereoscopic 3D in the left navigation menu.

did you do something different?

What driver version are you running now? NVIDIA Experience?

Have to figure out how to fix this… grrr

Can’t uninstall windows update of course… still unable to get past launcher.

I am still having problems though It isn’t the new graphics driver. Has something to do with the windows update… I’ve done the reinstall and such…

end result is I still can’t play and I am unsure what to do… even trying to get NVIDIA support…

I am sure it is the game. When I was messing around try to turn off the stereoscopic 3D using the GW2 options window I encounter lots of problems that can only have been caused by bugs in the GW2 software. (e.g. I would turn if off the stereoscopic 3D in the character window but it would get turned on again when I started to play the game)

There has been a new GW2 download recently. All the graphics problems I was experiencing yesterday have disappeared.

Try re-seating your graphics card.
