And GW2 wouldn’t load anymore. After several failed attempts at trying to change compatibility modes, admin mode (“Run as Administrator”), and graphics options, the game would freeze on the download screen.

So I deleted it and tried to reinstall the client.

Now it won’t install.

The game was working fine on my HP Envy dv6 laptop (Core i7 processor, 16 GB ram, Nvidia GT Geforce 630M) under Win 8 but now it won’t even install (it finishes downloading an update, screen flashes once, then the client disappears.) Is anyone else having this issue and has it been addressed? Is there a fix for it?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Sounds to me you hosed up your computer and it needs to be refreshed. Type Refresh in the start screen and do this, it only takes about 15 minutes and it re-images your computer with all the same files just no programs or viruses.

Windows 8.1 has worked for me in Guild Wars 2 since the preview edition, the only issue I had was alt tab crashing the game, but that could be fixed with windowed full screen.

All my other programs are working fine (though I did have to reactivate Photoshop & Maya), so I don’t want to have to reinstall dozens of other programs just to make this one work. Any chance Norton’s firewall could be blocking it?

Update: Added gw2setup.exe to Norton Firewall’s list of allowed programs and still no go.

This is an issue with Windows 8.1, not GW2. It’s affecting pretty much all games and the Tinfoil Brigade suspect it’s a deliberate ploy on Micro$ofts part to try and make the XBone One (Because you’ll take one look at it and walk away rofl kik) look good for gaming in comparison.

I personally had no issues with GW2 or any other program upon the update. /shrug

Sounds like happenstance, really.

Are you running an screen overlay client? Something like Overwolf? That is the only cause I have seen for GW2 not running on Win 8.1

Its actually the only problem I have had at all on Win 8.1

Likely the install client is not recognizing minimum specs to run GW2. A simple driver update for your video cards should allow the client to perform the install.

Thanks for the replies, guys. When I checked the help feature on my Nvidia card, it said there was a driver update available. I clicked on the link and it took me to a page on the Nvidia site for a drive download called “game update for Windows 8.1” (or something to that effect." I installed this update and GW2 is installing now. I’m usually hesitant to install video updates on my systems because I run professional editing and 3D software on them and at least one of these programs is really finicky about video drivers. Fortunately, that program (Avid Media Composer) still works after the update.

Thanks again for the help and suggestions. You definitely pointed me in the right direction.
