I have noticed that the game rapidly sink into low fps below 10fps after a minute of play.
Even if guild wars is the only application running on my system.

I tried different resolution, fun fact, the highest one is the better working one.
Also tried different settings but nothing seems to make it work.

My 2012 Macbook pro has a 2.4GHz i7, 8G ram and an AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB.

Thanks

There is an unconventional option to test, but let’s try the obvious first.

Make sure graphics switching is disabled under your power saving settings.

Post back and let me know how you go.

It wasn’t disabled, so now I disabled it and the game run a bit better but still at 10-15fps.

Could you post a screen shot of what settings you are using in game?

I’m going to try and get the specifics of the tweak I use to get better performance from mine but I need to get on my comp for it so I don’t give the wrong info. Will make a 2nd post for it so you don’t miss it.

I know it’s a bummer, but try turning your resolution down to 1440×900. (Why: my hubs has 2012 MBPr and turning his default screen to that nets him a lot of fps)

First, we’ll clear your settings and refresh your gw2 folder (this post will be a smidge long):

Delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues, even without the previous steps however, it will lose all saved login/password and in-game settings.

Mine is located under the hidden Library folder (navigate using finder or follow instructions below, do not use spotlight to search)

/[yourharddrivename]/users/[yourusername]/library/application support/guild wars 2

To access this:

1 Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock or the desktop of your computer to make “Finder” the active program in the finder menu bar.

2 Hold down the “Option” key on your keyboard while clicking “Go” in the finder menu bar. A drop-down will appear.

3 While still holding down the “Option” key, click on “Library” in the “Go” drop-down.

4 Once in the Library folder click on Application Support > Guild Wars 2

5 Move the entire Guild Wars 2 folder to the trash and then empty the trash.

The next time you launch Guild Wars 2 it will recreate the recently deleted folder.

Launch the game to recreate this folder now

The contents of that specific folder include “config, dyndata.dat, user.reg, userdef.reg, and folders p_drive and wineserver…namestuff…loca..[long name]” (just to list a few).

~~FYI Your folder is probably hidden (as is the default). Hidden folders display as greyed out text and icons.

Try this first, then if your fps and performance don’t improve, try this after:

Reset your SMC and PRAM:

To reset the SMC please follow the instructions provided on the following web page.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

The NVRAM/PRAM is what stores certain settings to allow your OS to access them quickly. I would like to ensure that none of these settings are interfering with the game being able to launch. Please note that resetting the NVRAM/PRAM will also reset these settings which may include resolution and volume among other information.

To reset the NVRAM/PRAM follow the instructions below:

1. Shut down the computer.

2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (?), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.

3. Turn on the computer.

4. Immediately press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears. Continue holding the keys down until the computer restarts, and you hear the start-up sound for the second time.

5. Release the keys.

NOTE – Resetting NVRAM/PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.

Post back after testing this and let me know how you go. Once your game does start running smoothly, you can tweak and adjust various settings to get a nice compromise between visually pleasing and performance. I get ~25-35 on mostly medium settings on an MBP late 2011 with 2.2ghz, 8gb ram.

Let me know though, there is still or more option to maximise performance here.

^^^This. I have your exact specs other than I have 16GB of RAM. I’m able to play Medium settings, Native at 30FPS, it dips to low 20s sometimes but it’s playable. if you want close to 30 constant turn off shadows and FXAA. What Ky suggested should help you out.

So the first set of insctruction didn’t change anything.

Although, the NVRAM reset works so when I want to play for a long time I just reboot, reset and all works fine.

Do you think the guild wars 2 dev team will release patches or update to correct these problems in the future?

I’m asking this question to know if it would be better to buy a PC to play.

To correct what problems? Low fps? That happens on the pc too. Not to mention, the pc version has even more problems than we do. And they’re a lot harder to fix, IMHO.

Right now, with the state we’re in, it’s really a personal choice of convenience not really of better.

But please elaborate on the problems you’re facing? (If you mean the other thread, typically, once they pinpoint it, they fix it.)
