Q:

Hello,

So I just bought a brand new custom built computer with the intention of running Guild Wars 2 at higher settings then my old laptop. I did this and the FPS immediatly dropped to sub 10. I’ve searched around for fixes to this in this forum and elsewhere, but I haven’t found any real information, other then setting GW2 to high priority and putting my power setting to High Performance. Here are my system specs:

OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Professional
Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601

Processor Intel® Core™ i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3401 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
Total Physical Memory 16.0 GB
GPU AMD Radeon HD 6450

If anyone has any suggestions or ideas on how to get the game to run better, I would be very appreciative!

Thank you!

Reflections set to off, although this may or may not hurt the looks. I did like how stuff reflected off of water, but at the same time, I hardly notice it anymore, and gain like 20-30 FPS (and water with no reflections still looks pretty awesome imo)

Shadows at medium are also nice. Still get dynamic shadows nearby, but far away stuff is static or blob, I think. In any case, still helps out FPS while not looking “completely” bad.

I’m running like 20-30 fps with low settings which makes no sense with my system specs, and I want to get them up to 50ish if I could.

Makes perfect sense. Your HD 6450 is likely maxing out. Its not a very fast card at all, its akin to a Nvidia 9500GS.
Infact i think its roughly the same as both the Intel HD 3000 and HD 4000 integrated GPU. You might find switching to ur 3770’s onboard grpahics may help. its alteats worth a try.

It may be a bit on his graphic card side, but also ALOT due to this game being once again very unoptimized.

It’s definitely the GPU – it is only slightly better than the integrated graphics.

If you make sure you have a high enough wattage PSU you can simply swap out the GPU and get much, much better performance.

Unfortunately, there is not much you can do given that GPU. There is just no way that graphics card is going to be able to kick it up to 50fps. Unfortunately, it makes perfect sense, since the GPU is very low-range.

If you bought this system pre-built and only just got it, you might consider returning it if you paid a lot – you could build a system that will run GW2 50-60fps outside of WvWvW for about $500USD.

Sorry to be a downer, man.

Very bad video card for gaming, something like a 7750 would a a huge improvement needs just 24 more watts of power..
