Hello, ok, I’m in the middle of making a character in gw2 and my screen gets weird colors and freezes with sound stuttering and repetition, and also causes me to reboot my computer. I dont know whether its my monitor, my video card, or both. I looked up similar problems, but none were exact with the way my screen was and the way it was crashing. It specifically happens while making a character, I haven’t had problems playing at all besides maybe lag, but whats an MMO without lag? Definitely, not an MMO, all MMO’s experience lag. Anyways, back on track, yeah I wish I could post pictures but I dont have a camera, a phone that can post pictures, etc., and I cant take screen shots because: 1 my comp. freezes, and 2 my comp. freezes. But it doesn’t freeze right away, takes like 3 and a half seconds to completely freeze. I have enough time to see my jacked up looking pixelated rainbow cursor wiggle around. The cursors the weirdest part, cause its got this bright/white colored distorted pixel box around it. The games graphics are slightly visible, but the character I’m creating has like a green, red, and white and blue pixel in between each millimeter by millimeter piece of skin/clothing. Also the other graphics like the animated illustrations on the bottom left and right of the screen are completely trans-versed into mainly navy blue pixels (with red pixel specs here and there) traced by a half inch thick line of distorted reds and oranges and blues, that flash like a blinking light. It gets dull then light then dull etc. and it goes fast like 2/3s of a second in between each flash of the distorted animation. Lemme know if you need anymore descriptions , or info. I’ll be watching for all advice!

the only option i have seen work is to underclock your GPU 10-20% until they can get the game optimized correctly. Thats wat i had to do to get my game to run smoothly

Make sure your video card drivers are completely up to date. Visit www.nvidia.com or www.amd.com whichever you have. My video card is overclocked by 10% and my CPU overclocked at 4.1 Ghz and I’m having no problems.

Updated all my video card drivers, and it still happens, I don’t know if this will help, but my video card is a Nvidia GeForce GTX 280

Same thing is happening to me. I log in, and minutes or seconds after the game starts, the screen changes to a single solid color (a different color every time) and the sound skips.
I’ve updated my video card, so I know that’s not the problem in my case.

do you know what temperatures your video card is reaching? you can download GPU-Z to display the temperatures (think you can even write it to a log file in the event of crashing) and see what it peaks at.

Wierd colours and stuff like that is usually either a fault of bad video memory, overheating or unstable overclocks (some manufacturers factory overclock cards to gain advantage over the competition, but sometimes it doesnt work so well)

Thanks for the reply, Refraction. I’m trying to see what temp the card is while the game is running, but I can’t get the game to run for even five seconds now. The screen becomes a solid color and everything is unresponsive as soon as the character selection screen comes up.
My video card is a GeForce GTX 550 Ti with updated drivers as of yesterday, if that helps.

Are you having troubles with any other games or just guild wars currently? Also do you have anti aliasing forced on in the nvidia control panel or anything?
