Guild Wars 2

Ever since I’ve started playing on the Heart of Thorns maps I’ve been experiencing random crashes. I cannot find a single reason why I get them, but it goes like this.

At one moment I pressed the M key to bring up the map it turns up black. I can count down from 5 to zero and it will crash after that. There’s no error message displayed so I cannot tell you what is causing the issue on my machine.

Another moment where the client seems to fail is when I am fighting mobs. It doesn’t really matter what kind of mobs or where. After a while the client has the tendency to crash during fights. There’s no specific timespan between the failures. And again I get no message.

As you can imagine it’s very frustrating to play under these conditions.

For completeness:

I run the game on an iMac late 2015 model (3.3 Ghz CPU + 8GB mem)
Operating system is Mac OSX 10.11.2

Any idea what could go wrong here and what I can do to get around these problems?

I have my graphics set on “Best Performance” and it seems to stop most of the crashes. It means I only ever see the basic models of people – all those big pink/grey men – but my game runs fairly fast and I can fight the big bosses and not disconnect.

I have an IMac i7, by the way. It was top of the range when I bought it in 2012 but that doesn’t matter to GW 2. The Mac version is pretty bad at the moment and unlikely to improve much I feel.

Some Mac people have boot camped their Mac and play the Win version. It is heaps better I believe.

I’m thinking about that. I do have an extra Windows license available to me, but it would mean that I have to run Windows just for the game. I don’t think it’s worth to me that much.

Thanks for the tip though, going to give that a shot and see what that brings me.

I use widows bootcamp only for GW2. I do not want to do this but give up Mac client just get worse over last year with big FPS drop and many graphic problem never had before. It run much much better bootcamp like different game. I can play medium and some high setting and get good FPS.

I have exactly the same problem. It was worse when HoT was launched, now is just on big events, specifically Dragon Stand meta event. I also tweaked the specs to all low (I refuse to do best performance, I have all the great fps I want, what I want is the good visuals my graphics and computer allows me to have and that is suppose to be bloody spectacular!). I simply can’t finish the kitten meta event, not even once. Specially frustrating is when you have ‘a new build available’. You already know you’re going to be booted and left sucking on your thumb: no xp, no awards, no special merchs, etc. I guess it will be my last thing to do on ‘Neveragain’ IV…
It’s also a late 2015 21,5’ iMac with 16 GB 1867 MHz DDR3, Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 1536 MB and 3,3 GHz Intel Core i7. However I can’t instal Win just to play Gw (not even my old 2 GW accts) because El Capitan OS has some bootcamp problem. You can’t partition for Win. Yay. Go Apple. -.-
