I got my PC custom built by a friend but my GF wasn’t so lucky, I need help in upgrading what she needs so I can play GW2. What do I need to upgrade so that I can play (minimal settings is fine, atm it won’t let me install for some reason).

Not sure exactly what to put here, so ill just list off some stuff.

Specs:
Win7

Processor: Pentium® Dual-Core CPU E5400 @ 2.70GHz (2 CPUs), ¬2.7GHz
Memory: 3GB RAM

G Card: Intel® G33/G31 Express Chipset Family
Chip type: Intel® GMA 3100
Approx total memory: 256MB

anet answer would be “nothing”

honest answer, everything….

the official min specs

Windows® XP Service Pack 2 or better
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, Core i3, AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 or better
2 GB RAM
NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800, ATI Radeon™ X1800, Intel HD 3000 or better (256MB of video RAM and shader model 3.0 or better)
25 GB available HDD space
Broadband Internet connection
Keyboard and mouse

more honest min specs

Windows® 64bit
Intel® Core™ i5/i7@4.5ghz , AMD FX6300@4.2ghz
8 GB RAM
NVIDIA® GeForce® 7800, ATI Radeon™ X1800, (256MB of video RAM and shader model 3.0 or better)
25 GB available HDD space
Broadband Internet connection
Keyboard and mouse

in reality anything you build will still not get you a guarantee of over 30fps if you do WvWvW or DE’s in game.

this is AMD/Intels fault, they need to make some 6-8ghz tricore cpu’s so this game will have the kind of processor it needs to really stretch its legs and show its true potential.

if only amd and intel would get off their arses and make faster cpu’s so gw2 could better show its true potential. (60+fps minimum game wide)

AMD FX-8350@4.8ghz on air(SilverArrowSB-E Extreme) , 32gb 1866mhz(10-11-10 cr1)
PCP&C 1200watt TC, Crosshair V F-Z, Sapphire 290x

$50-150 maybe, possibly could spend more (they seem to be cheaper in the UK which is where I am atm)

I would be fine with 20, I honestly would just like to log in.

Was hoping a gcard upgrade would let me install and play because I don’t feel up to the challenge of installing a graphics card and processor.

Honestly OP.

$50-150. Thats barely enough for 1 component.

The CPU’s that would allow u to run GW2 on a LGA 775 board have a pritty heft price tag on them for their performance nowerdays as they r discontinued.

Meaning ur best upgrade path is a new CPU/Motherboard/RAM. And since u dont got a dedicated GPU it means u will ether need a CPU with a onboard GPU or get a dedicated GPU aswell.

All in all u need alot more than $150.

If ur lucky a GPU would enable u to atleast play the Game ..but this rig looks like it was made without a dedicated GPU in mind ..meaning the PSU may well be to small to handle a dedicated card.

i can’t add much to what has been said.

if you even want to meet the minimum requirements set for GW2, you’ll have to spend more than that.

not to mention that these min requirements are pretty much too low if you plan to play WvW or a moderately crowded area.

That there is the cheapest rig i could build. It will play GW2. You will get better performance if u spend the time to OC the CPU, the cooler on the list should handle a respectable OC.

The GPU is minimum u want for medium settings and good FPS.

The HDD and Optical drivesu can salvagae form ur old rig. Same goes for the OS.

Also another thing about the CPU ..thats bassicaly the lowest u want for GW2..dont expect good performance in WvW or large Dynamic Events.
