Guild Wars 2

Hi! I have had this game since the pre-release and have had all of my characters since that same day. I logged on today and decided to go through characters I never touch. Everything was fine until I reached my necro. I then came across this:

Can I get an official response on this?

Moto is the name of a Super Adventure Box NPC. So basically you got shafted, seeing as you probably had the name first.

If you truly are a day one player, yeah, you received the shaft.

I agree with Kousetsu.

“Moto” was not an NPC at launch. SAB came after the fact. If the OP is indeed a pre-launch purchaser and registered that name prior to SAB’s release, he is not at fault here.

OP, I would recommend you contact support and argue your case.

While your at it, have them show you, Where in the game is this NPC? Maybe you can get a time frame of when this NPC will be back.

I am quite certain that the NPC is in the game right now.

Yep, they have it in the naming policy.
More specifically this part:

This policy may not cover all inappropriate or disallowed names. ArenaNet reserves the right to reject any name it concludes, in its sole and absolute discretion, is indecent, obscene, offensive, or that otherwise violates our naming policy or the Guild Wars 2 User Agreement. ArenaNet reserves the right to examine names on a case-by-case basis and take whatever action we deem necessary in our sole and absolute discretion. We reserve the right, in our sole and absolute discretion, to change, modify, add, or remove portions of this Guild Wars 2 Naming Policy at any time.

Which is rather standard for any game really.

Yeah, that’s pretty whack. I imagine it was an automated system that detected this and issued the order for you to change it when that NPC was created, so you should definitely contact customer support and make your case. If it matters that much to you, that is, since you did say you haven’t touched that character in ages.

I have the names Motoko, M O T O K O, Motoko Kai, Gladiator Motoko, Motoko Complex, M O T O, Motoko Chroma, and Moto.

Honestly I am tempted to keep the name and just never play my necro again since I don’t touch her at all lol.

I may check the support venue to see what comes of that though.
