What should I upgrade to make my computer (which is 3 years old now..) to make it run smooth and easy, with the highest graphic on?
I use the highest graphic on always, because I just love how the game’ graphic really are, but the bad thing is that when I am running in towns, or battling with players/lots of mobs it gets laggy..
Please, give me a few tips on what I should upgrade! Or if I should just buy a new computer....
Thank you!!

CPU/MB first, System ram(if its DDR3), then GPU. In that order.

Buy a new computer or it’s going to be a major organ transplant.

The major organ transplant will likely be cheaper if you think you can do one. DIY isn’t that difficult but it’s a matter of confidence. This isn’t swapping a video card or adding more memory or another hard drive.

CPU is four generations behind, it’s likely that your system is either using DDR2 or slow DDR3 memory. So motherboard, CPU, RAM upgrade would be required. I would stick with Intel CPUs even though AMD offers lower priced CPUs but considering the age of your current CPU, everything short of a single core CPU is an upgrade. You can do a decent upgrade of those 3 parts, a Intel Haswell CPU (Pentium G3258), a Socket 1150 motherboard and 8GB of DDR3-1600 memory for easily under $250. That would double you CPU performance even at default clock speed. The G3258 is unlocked and a 30% OC while still using the default Intel cooler is quite doable for a novice and will blow past in terms of performance of the more expensive i3s which are not unlocked.

Video card is a little more nebulous due to AMD’s reluctance to display the model number of the GPU. You could use GPU-Z to find out the number of shaders, clock speed, memory type and speed and with that find the exact model of HD 48xx.

That said even the HD 4890 is slower than the HD 7770/R7 250X which is a $100ish card. nVidia cards tend to be more expensive for similar performance.

Edit: I hate homophones. Heterographs aren’t my friends either.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

If the graphics card is a 4830/4850/4870 I’d look at replacing it. However the late coming 4890 which challenged Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 280 reasonably well is substantially better than the former king Radeon HD 4870. However it’s still pretty weak in comparison to today’s offerings but if you do however have a 4890, I’d stick with using it for a bit more. Behellagh’s $250 upgrade is a decent solution.

that cpu is 6 years old. Behellagh has you on the right track.

For gpus, the 250x can be found for cheap, but decent quality ones (w/2 gb vram) are edging into 260x/750ti terrirory.

At the $100 dollar level, i would definitely spend the 10-20 more for a 260x or 750 ti for significantly better performance. (Personally i would go with 750ti due to the better overclocking the maxwell chip can do)

Also get a decent psu if you are going to oc that pentium K.

I would complete suggest a 260x for the 99-120 price range right now. If you are going to spend 159-179 then I would suggest a 270 or a 270x

So.. the easiest way to run smooth and play without lag on the highest graphic card settings is to buy a new computer?

Thank you all for your tips and tricks above me! I am really grateful but it seems like I should buy a new computer after all..
Any specific PC that works perfectly on GW2? [I want to run the highest graphic settings without lagging]
Please, comment any great computer with good gear that can handle GW2
