Greetings, I just purchased guild wars 2 planning to use the mac beta client. I’ve watched numerous videos on youtube espousing the greatness of guild wars 2, it’s gameplay, community and the responsiveness of its developers; everything sounds great! I live in Florida and the power goes out VERY frequently, I doubt I’ll be able to finish the installer download before this occurs. At the current .5-2MB/sec pace it looks as if it will take a couple of days to fully install (really?, my connection speed is very good, closer to 12). I can install gw2 into bootcamp/win 8. I’d like to know which files if ANY I can move to my mac to increase the installer speed, and in which path I would need to create/place them in order to satisfy the installer? I’ve noticed a lot of people complaining in the forums about the mac client. Transparency, an operational forum search (your’s appears to be broken in my safari 7.0.6/os x 10.9.4), updated client status information, and the use of additional forum stickies would really help to keep your customer base satisfied and free you up from the need to respond to random, repeated, support requests from the community. Please contact me as soon as possible about the file copy issue, I’m dying to start playing! TY in advance =)

The big file is called Gw2.dat. You can transfer that between your Windows and Mac installs (and the other way around).

Here comes the fun part, locations for the files.

Windows:
Program Files (x86) > Guild Wars 2 > Gw2.dat

That is the file you need to copy to your Mac.

Mac:
Applications > Guild Wars 2.app

Right click (or control left click) Guild Wars 2 and click Show Package Contents

A new window should appear. Now navigate:

Contents > Resources > transgaming > c_drive > GW2 > Gw2.dat

That is the file you need to replace. Drag the Windows Gw2.dat file into there and replace.

It shouldn’t take more than a day to download, took me 5 or so hrs, my download then ran at a consistent 1mb+.

Yeah the search function has always been broken. It used to sort of almost work, but now it does absolutely nothing.

Adding on to what Nageth said – that’s not necessarily the install location on Windows – but you should be able to figure out where the game installs pretty easily since you have some control over it, mine for instance is in the user folder. alternatively a search should show you where the GW2.dat is.

Just a heads up when it comes to copying the file between operating systems. Boot into OSX and from there you should be able to navigate the Windows partition in finder and copy the file across.

Yeah, I’m not so great on the windows side of things. lol

And yeah, always try to copy from your destination and not the other way around.

Speaking of partitions, anyone know a safe way to shrink the windows partition? The disk utility doesn’t let me, I don’t really play SWTOR anymore so definitely should reclaim
some space.

This would be your best bet I think:

Take a look there and figure out which one is going to be the best for you. Just make sure you do a time machine backup first I would hate for you to lose any of your files!

Thanks Nageth worked great! Thank You, everyone else, for your replies. It took all of 9 min to copy that file over. I was tempted to alias it to the windows file; but I’d rather not risk another reinstall on windows (would be nice to know if this works to save the extra 20G of HD space). This info really needs to get its own forum sticky. Also wanted to tell whoever might read this, that the game seems to work well on a 2011 iMac 27" if you cut the resolution a bit you can max your settings out and get 60fps. Most of the native mac resolutions are higher than the mainstream windows resolutions; I’ve found games often run faster at mainstream windows resolutions. I also wanted to note that the installer hung, tho worked on restart, and the game itself was a bit weird after the install. It seems after an os reboot the issues I was having went away (like the mouse scroll not working, or the window/minizing options closing the game). I’ve got a feeling the wrapper in which it runs doesn’t interact well with OS X until a restart. If you’ve used a mac before many filesystem or settings changes ripple through the entire operating system in real time w/out the need to refresh anything (rarely). I suspect this is the issue after the initial install (the OS isn’t aware of some settings).

It won’t work if you alias it to the windows file. Your windows partition is NFTS and the OSX partition is HFS+, they can read each other but thy can’t write onto each other.

Thanks, I also was given warning in the Apple forums of the dangers of this.
