I’m just curious to the fact of why the specs must be so much higher to that of the window client? I’m assuming it’s because mac is in the beta stages but thats just a complete random assumption.. any answers?

The Mac client is not a native OSX port, it uses so-called Cider-port that essentially wraps around the Windows client, and translates the input and output so that OSX can handle it. That requires extra computing power, hence the higher requirements and lower performance.

^—- Exactly what Naqaj said.
The requirements will always be high unless they decide to make a native client, which won’t happen considering they have already put money into this license with transgaming.

Running the client through a cider wrapper ends up taking considerably more RAM and processing power, so they have to inflate the system requirements to reflect that.

Unless a game is designed to be cross-platform (OpenGL) at the start, it’s unreasonable to expect a true port to any other system.

I have a lot of experience with Wine and Crossover and other wrappers for running Windows apps, and I think GW2’s Cider wrapper is of remarkable quality. I’m thankful they have an officially-supported option for us Mac users so we don’t have to reboot every time we want to play, and we as a community don’t have to deal with configuration headaches and figuring it out on our own.

I agree. I don’t mind sacrificing some system resources to avoid having to boot in to Boot Camp every time I want to play.

Well I had to quit QW2 cuz I have an older Mac even if I did go from Mac OX 10.6.8 to 10.7 it wouldn’t matter cuz since its a 2006 model intel Xeon witch are better then I5 and I7 ( not mine its old ) but they are workstations systems ( Xeon’s that is ) sadly I don’t want to replace my tower with a smaller Imac or Laptop sorry I’m a designer and my mac s just fine its funny how I can run a 600$ program well 1000 if I get the suit CS6 but can’t run a 60 buck game cuz they don’t want to make a Mac native, so sad I have to give up such a good game.
