Q:
basically, I get bad frames in gw2. I choose the “Auto-detect” setting in graphics options and my frames get worse as more is happening; ie. combat w/ multiple mobs.. so basically, anything like events, dungeon fights, pvp all gets bad frames. Occasionally I will use the “best performance” setting and get by, but graphics are so ugly in that setting that it won’t hold my interest long if I have to use that.
I’d like to see if anyone thinks it could be hardware, so..
Here’s my hardware:
Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130275
CPU: Phenom II x4 965 – 3.4GHz > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727
RAM: 4x G.Skill Ripjaw 2GB DDR3 SDRAM (PC3 10666) > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231275
Graphics: xFx 5770 > http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150447
PSU: Corsair 650w
I use dual-monitors, run game in windowed fullscreen.
If you’d like more info, ask and I will deliver. Thanks in advance.

A:
I am running dual monitor, the game is on my main monitor.
main: 22" Envision
second: 20" HP
If you have playable FPS on best performance but the game is uggly then you could upgrade your video card. When you switch from high to low if your FPS are not really changing then you perty much have what you have unless you upgrade about everything.
So your running the game on 2 monitors with that single card?

Yea, I figured that b/c I can switch to best-performance setting and get good frames under a high load that my best bet is to replace the GPU. Thanks for confirming.
This is a good price if it will fit inside your case. Really good if you get the rebate and hard to beat for the performance to price.
Of course if you can spend alot more it’s better. 7870 or 7950

Thanks. I appreciate all your help.
You getting bad performance in GW2 becouse you are using a AMD cpu. GW2 doesnt like AMD cpu’s atm ..and even if Anet somhow improve AMD cpu performance ..it still wont be ‘great’ as AMD cpu’s have poor single thread perfomance when compared to intel, not to mention its only runnign at 3.4ghz..even people who OC to over 4.3ghz have bad performance with AMD.
Your GPU is also slower than a Nvidia 550 ..which isnt even a gaming card. .its a top end miltimedia card..so your not likely going to be able to push high graphics settings and get good fps.
Anyway this explain ‘why.. To help sort it out ..well im afraid all you could do is upgrade your computer with a modern intel OC’able cpu and a gaming GPU ..which tbh i would NOT recommend if its only for 1 game. A new cheap gaming gpu is probably your best bet atm, but it will get bottlenecked under high load by the cpu ..like in Cities and WvWvW..and large pve dynamic events.
He said it was playable on best performance but not for best apearance so a video card upgrade will make it better since he does not like the way the game looks in best performance.
The older AMD chips still perform better than the FX.
I get best performance in full screen mode.
