Asus X550LB-XO026D

CPU: Intel i5-4200U (1,6Ghz – 2,6Ghz TB)
GPU: nVidia Geforce GT 740M
4GB RAM

What graphic settings I can expect (by playable I consider minimum 25 fps in non-zerg content like dungeons and completing maps)

Thank you for your insight =)

Its totally going to depend on the LCD’s resolution. at 720P you shouldn’t have much of an issue and should get between 40-50 fps on medium settings.

If your LCD is 1080P you need to get a i7 (faster clock and 2 more cores) and upgrade the GPU to at least a 750 or 760.

I’ve been seeing some reports that resolutions aren’t making too much of a big difference in this game. Even I didn’t have much of a change going from 1920×1080 to 5760×1080.
I think that laptop can get away with medium settings fairly easy with reflections and shadows off or play on auto-detect.

Your advice is to upgrade a laptop? Really?

Resolution would not matter that much and this game does NOT needs an i7…. If the system is running 64 bit OS, consider adding another 4GB of memory.

You should be fine to run that laptop with GW2. You won’t be able to run highest graphics settings without some FPS spikes, but you should be fine at medium settings.

Yes, because the i5 is 2core/4threads, were the i7 is 4cores/8threads.

THAT makes a HUGE difference for this game. If that i5 was 4cores, then an upgrade wouldn’t have been suggested.

I have a laptop quite similar to OP’s laptop. But I has this problem: Sometimes when I enter the game some images wont load( the map, skills icons and several other things) and it lags heavily…Is it hardware issue? I can play on medium setting no prob.

Edit: I checked Task Manager and it only uses below 50% of CPU and 95% of RAM….

Actually, Sirsquishy I’d like to offer a point or two that two of my old guild mates have both played Guild wars 2 on similar Asus laptops all the same specs except one laptop had an i5 3210M and the other one had an i3… can’t remember. Both Ivybridge. Both chips had Intel HD 4000 and for both, they played fine on medium settings when not taking zergs into account. Of course the i5 unit did better with the added turbo boost.
I’m sure this unit would be fine for more than the aforementioned laptops given the that it has a dedicated graphics card GT 740M.

My comment was that you suggested a laptop processor actually COULD be upgraded….very few laptops allow a processor change (laptop motherboards typically have soldered on processors).

Also i5 /= 2 cores any longer.

People that build gaming rigs with i7s also think anything with less than +120 FPS is substandard video. Hardware manufacturers love those people.

Laptops no long come with CPU’s soldered on to the Motherboard. Haven’t for YEARS.

sure the BIOS needs the code for the CPU to be recognized and has to match the socket. But laptop’s can very well be upgraded on most of their components now. You just have to understand how to get it done.

2c/4t Just like I said…Because I actually LOOKED IT UP before I made the recommendation.

Yep 2C/4T – also low clock speed

No need to upgrade… if you like GW2 and you will spend a lot of your time for that game then get new laptop or PC.

First i recommend you wait for new maxwell GPUs like GTX 850 then get laptop with i7 4*** ( turbo core 3.4GHZ)

yea, but thats a grand :-)

If the OP doesn’t have the cash to spend, my i7 recommendation still stands as a value add upgrade for his Laptop. As they are only 130~ used.

yup, its what I did for BOTH of my HP Laptops. They went from AMD internals to Intel i7’s :-)

210 each :-)

And worth every penny.

I don’t think OP will find a Haswell i7 4700MQ for 130, or even for less than 250. Even a used one.

If OP has not yet bought this laptop, I’d look for one with an i5 4200M instead of even further to i7 4700MQ. The standard dual core i5 paired with GT 740M or 750M can do well in GW2 to an extent.
