Will it run GW2?
You’re running a GPU with dedicated video memory and a slightly better CPU than I am, but this game can be a little more harsh on CPU. Especially in -say- WvW. For reference:
Asus K55N A8-4500M (Radeon HD 7640G), 4 gb ram.
Overall, you should pack slightly higher FPS compared to my current system. Game’s definately playable on low-medium settings, though. I tend to hit 35-40 in open world content/uncrowded areas, ~20-25 in most WvW scraps.
With that said – as much a rabid AMD fan as I am – if money’s not an issue, you could try for an i5/Nvidia combo, or preferably i7/Nvidia.

Thanks for the answer. So in general intel/nvidia combo is better than intel/amd hd? I think I can’t go higher than nvidia gt630m which is slightly worse than 7670m (notebookcheck.com), so amd graphics card seems to be just a better choice.
P.S. How is your APU doing in other games? I was wondering if amd A6 could be an option for gaming.
My APU does fine in more GPU-heavy titles, tbh. I’d go A8 or 10 over 6, though. Not much of a price hike, but you’ll gain more overall CPU-side performance (via extra cores) and a better GPU. As a comparision, my last system was the old (Llano series) A6-3420m. I’ve gained noticeable improvements in games like Dragon Age or Skyrim with the current (Trinity series) A8-4500M. Also, going quad over dualcore is something of a “future proofing” method for mobile gaming. More games these days are starting to faff about with multi-threaded coding.
(Truth is, in either of our cases, no APU is going to beat out a top-end i7/Nvidia combo. Although, AMD does make improvements on each successive generation of APUs. They just have nowhere near the kind of money to throw at R&D as Intel or Nvidia) /shrug

i5 3210m , 4gb ram, amd hd 7670m 2gb.
This will play Guild Wars 2 on high.
Two buddies of mine have third generation i3 and i5 mobile processors with Intel HD 4000. They play at medium with good frame rates. The 7670m 2 GB is a very good mainstream laptop card I believe and I think it’ll handle GW2 very well
Also for the record, the GT 630m would be fairly worse than the HD 7670m. Here is why: The GT 540m Nvidia Geforce card can run this game at medium fairly well.
Video of the game running on an i5 480 and GT540m notebook:
The GT540m is a rebranded GT435m. the GT630m is a rebranded GT540m which is actually a GT435m. It’s just not really updated performance wise. Also keep in mind that the GT435m/540m/630m do not really benefit from 2GB of dedicated memory but maybe in some other places it does.
I would take the AMD Radeon HD 7670m over the 630 if I were you but that is me. I hope this helps, OP!

Wow, thanks for really informative answers!

Core i3 with HD4000 integrated? These are minimum requirements. My PC also meets minimum requirements (core 2 duo, nvidia GTS450, 2GB ram) but GW2 runs just terribly (35fps max, 15-20 lion’s arch, unplayable in WvW and bigger events).
You know, i do not have high expectations. Other games I want to play are dota2 and diablo3. Maybe, for example, an ultrabook with core i3 and 4-6gb of ram would be enough to run smoothly on low?
My next question is if it is possible to play games on these laptops on external monitors? I have fullHD monitor from my PC. Do you think amd hd7670 is able to run games in this resolution?

I can’t speak for how well other games will run on the hardware, but an i3 with 4-6GB of ram isn’t much to go on. I’m assuming we’re talking about using Intel’s HD 3000 or 4000 which are slightly above the minimum requirements to play the game. You’ll be able to launch the game, but playing smoothly is a different answer. What to you is smoothly in FPS? 30? 60?
Assuming the resolution you haven’t mentioned for this desktop monitor is 1080p, it likely won’t go over very well with the 7670. You’ll be forced to play on lower settings and it’ll be a toss up whether its your GPU or your CPU being the limiting factor. Your CPU is more critical in more crowded areas like Lions Arch, WvW battles, and large dynamic events. Out in normal PvE the CPU is used less and the GPU becomes the limiting factor.

Yeah, Core i3 with HD4000 integrated. They’re pretty good little chips.
As for the Full HD monitor on the AMD Radeon HD 7670m, being that it’s not a… very high end mobile card, I’d say you would be able to play with tweaked settings around medium to medium high on a full HD if talking 1920×1080. Though I wouldn’t go ahead and believe it’ll play smooth on high but you never know. A smooth 30 FPS is great. A choppy one is bad so we can only hope that a smooth 30 FPs could be achieved between medium and high. Reflections and shadows hit the hardest in my experience so turning those down should give some slack. Now on 1366×768, I’d try maxing it personally and then adjusting accordingly.
As for the desktop with core 2 duo and GTS450, I think where the laptop will do better is the processor having a much better updated architecture. This game practically sings on the Core i series. i5 and i7 have it the best. And considering you’re looking at an i5 3210m laptop, I don’t expect it to have issues. It may even do a bit better than the desktop, since it’s a CPU heavy game.

Don’t worry, the i5 and i3 will handle PVE no problem. Though maybe with the somewhat exception of world bosses but that’s one thing. Even if he would have to play on low the i5 would eat the game. But considering the difference of the HD4000 and 7670m, I bet he can pump medium on Full HD 1080p.

Ok, I think this laptop is the right choice. Thanks guys
