I’ve been given the message by Windows that the above-mentioned update is ready for download and installation.

The thing is, I’ve heard of people having issues with it so wanted to ask here if you’ve found it stable or perhaps it has made you want to stuff your left elbow into your right ear?

I especially don’t want it interfering with GW2 in any way! I’ve heard that fast drives and some nVidea cards may be impacted so I’m currently looking into that.

Thanks!

ETA I’m looking into the group policy on my machine to defer the install.

ETA2 – deferred for 60 days now

It doesnt interfere with gw2 so much as it does the entire machine.

I updated two days ago and it was completely kittened until I turned off UAC. That miserable function is broken in creators edition or something.

First time I started GW2 after the patch, both my screens just dimmed with the language selection at bottom right. Clicking that locked up the machine. Escape did nothing. Ctrl alt del made it go black and eventually get the prompt after like 5 minutes… only to freeze when clicking something.

At first I thought it was just GW2 that was broken, but then I tried to start discord (to rant about the update) and of course, same exact behaviour. Thats when I put on my headphone and heard the prompt noise and realized that kitten, that must be the UAC prompt!

No problems since turning it off. Just a few days doesnt really say much though.

Thanks for the input. Hadn’t of it affecting the UAC before! It’d be interesting to see if a Dev could provide input and/or experience with this “upgrade”.

When it downloaded itself unto my PC every time I would Alt+Tab during initial load up it would freeze my computer and I would have to restart. Other than that GW2 was fine, only other noticeable thing was when alt+tabbing during game play it would freeze but only for a quick 1-2 seconds. It was enough for me to rollback my updates.

Also, I am running a build identical to yours :P

I can finally start the game now, but for awhile it was really weird, I couldn’t start the game while MSI afterburner was running. Also I currently have that weird 2 second freezing issue when I Alt+tab.

The Windows 10 Creators Update doesn’t interfere with GW2 at all. In fact, no Windows 10 update ever interfered with it. After any Windows update, check this:

  • make sure you are running the most recent graphics driver
  • make sure you deactivate programs and tools that inject code into games like Sweetfx, Overwolf, MSI Afterburner, Rivatuner, Arcdps and any other GW2 dps meter. Switch them back on one after one and only after you checked for the most recent version.

The second topic is important, because for new Windows versions, the DLLs from Windows get changed and the injecting programs that rely on fixed DLL code addresses may jump into wrong entry points. All these code injecting programs may have to be updated whenever a Windows DLL, graphics driver DLL or game executable gets changed. You see this with arcdps: you have to update arcdps every other GW2 update or it stops functioning, makes GW2 crash or perform badly.
