Guild Wars 2

I just upgraded to Windows 10, and Guild Wars 2 doesn’t seem to want to work. I can open the launcher, start the game, and choose a character, but the game then crashes before the map loads. Any ideas?

ETA: I can’t get a screenshot of the crash alert, but this is what my characters look like on the character selection pages- serious lack of faces!

Unfortunately it doesn’t, it just force quits. I managed to get a photo on my phone, excuse the quality!

I just tried to boot up another game & that has also crashed. Than you for trying to help, but it seems its not a problem with Guild Wars!

I remember reading in article about someone else’s experiences with windows 10. They had a similar problem and discovered it wasn’t related to the application in question but rather something getting messed up in the windows 10 installation. They mentioned reinstalling the applications that were having trouble fixed the issue for the most part. In the case of GW2, try right clicking the shortcut and going to properties. Where it shows Target and a file path add a -repair at the end. For me it would look like this: “D:\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -repair

Once you’ve done that, launch the game via the shortcut and let it run through the repair process. There’s no guarantee this will fix the problem, but it certainly won’t hurt it to try. After you’ve completed a full repair cycle, make sure that you go back into the shortcut and remove the -repair or it will run a repair every time you try to launch the game.

The other thing you might want to try is doing a clean install of your graphics card driver. Depending on whether your graphics card is AMD or NVidia the process is different, so google is your friend on this one.

In another thread i also read that a person found out that the Logitech G600 software
was causing problems, so he had to stop it to start GW2.

Well the windows 10 update that is pending on my home PC, looks like it will stay pending for a bit. Thanks for posting this info about Windows 10.

Thank you! It seems there were some updates that hadn’t installed. Once they had, my games started working again. My characters have faces again, and it’s not crashing!

Running windows 10 for a while now (insider preview, RTM, and now live) and have not had that issue. Jon pm me if you need anything from me to sort of act like a control for figuring out what is going on with Silvertoungue

Make sure you have installed your drivers from Nvidia

I just did he windows 10 update and now I have a double images of green and red and slow mouse movement. Played with the settings and no changes. Any ideas on what to do?
Logged into CIV 5 and it has the same issue.

One important thing that multiple people have mentioned is that the nvidia default driver that gets installed with win10 isnt working properly, so remove that and re-install it.

Apparently this has fixed alot of issues for some people.

Another thing i noticed was anyone who uses the razer synapse software – i found that uninstalling and reinstalling fixed mouse/headset issues.

Also just giving it a few restarts and actually finishing of the set up helps.

People in this thread should start to provide information about what kind of driver version and video card they have problems with to get any idea if it might be a problem related to how Windows 10 install video drivers too early to public or if it could be related to how different video card setting (like FXAA, AO etc) trigger problems for some Guild Wars 2 player.

Remember that Windows 10 are still not RTM, but in the last stage for public release which should happen somewhere around now!

Well since its a brand new OS there is bound to be issues until all the drivers get put out for all the hardware that’s still falls in the support life cycles.

Windows 10 is RTM and public release is going to be rolled out in waves world wide according to MS so the servers don’t get overloaded. Yes I know Windows 10 as a service now and that RTM means something little different now, semantics I know but its RTM.

I made a couple of installation DVDs but I’ll wait until the weekend to install on one PC as a test (with backup partition images in case of Badness).

This is why I’m sticking with Windows 7 Pro for as long as humanly possible. Even if Windows 10 is completely free, I’ve disabled all notifications and updates associated with the transition.

Same problem nvidia 970. Note I didn’t wait for my update notice – I went to the page where you could download manually….

Went to nvidia site (using IE).
Tried the auto search for compatible driver – downloaded – failed install on a compatibility message.
Manually picked the proper drivers for my card- OS – downloaded – installed – now works.

also removed my razor software for now….

most likely driver issue as most have pointed above. ran into it too on my first try only to realize the geforce drivers i had didn’t support windows 10 and windows 10 didn’t have default nvidia drivers in it and i was running on mssoft’s most basic primary display driver. so i had to uninstall the old nvidia driver and get the proper one from the nvidia website and it worked from that point. game’s pretty compatible enough to run on windows 10. arguably even faster. slower computers should be able to notice the promised less overhead and less stress on their processors. if you’re coming from windows 7, you’ll notice less random ram hogs too.

Not to mention fast boots….. To clarify, I had the newest nvidia driver before installing win 10. Reinstalling the same driver after win 10 was running was what worked for me…

Trying all the updates on the drivers… I hope it’s not a g600 thing. I use it to play engi 99% of action!

issues like that could be because you are using the drivers windows installed on its own during the upgrade/clean Installation.

to stop windows from automatic driver installation you can do this:

Turned out I didn’t have the latest version. I required a reboot according to my device manager. Did that and then I managed to install the latest drivers from the NVIDIA site. Game purs like a kitten on highest settings again.

Did you use the search function / plug in on nvidia page (option 2? That failed for me. I used option 1 selecting the proper type /series/product/OS manually – that worked. Note : I selected the … On the right and opened in IE. Option 2 required that because of the Java plug in…..

Additional note: other games had similar problems to gw2 so was totally on win 10 install and not gw2 in my case….

I’m having issues as well, it’ll get me as far as the character select screen. All my characters look funky as idk what, and some are even missing eyes.
I tried what was suggested on here with the updated of my Nvidia driver and I’m not sure if it’s only me but the driver failed to install, even after multiple tries?
I have an Nvidia GeForce GTX 760
Hope fully the issue will resolve within the next couple of days..

Don’t realy on Windows10 to find all your hardwares latest drivers go to the manufactures hardware support website and get the latest windows10 drivers starting with your motherboard chipset drivers if theses drivers are not updated first then this may effect installing video card drivers. If your system is to old it may not have these drivers available check befor you upgrade to windows10

Just doin an update on my issue, with a couple of restarts of my computer the game is now workin perfectly fine! No crashes!

treat the upgrade like a fresh install guys, get your drivers from the relevant places, ask cortana to tell you a story and have fun.

I upgraded to Windows 10 this morning. All went well, started GW2 was all fine, an hour later went back to play it loaded up to the character screen then went black and crashed to the BSOD with the following error message VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE igdkmd64.sys

As of yet I have yet to resolve this issue, but I’m Googling away in the hope I can find the answer. Putting this here in case any one else is having the same issues or can help.

After a lot of trial and error I think I have resolved this issue.

It seems my computer is having an issue with DX12, so I had to edit the registry to set it back to a working version.

Regedit and locate the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectX

Find the value called “Version” with a data value of 4.09.00.0904 double click to change version from 4.09.00.0904 to 4.08.00.0904. Restart your computer and GW2 should be working.

I found this online and should have saved the link to post, so this is from memory. I am not guaranteeing this will sort out your computer, but it has done the trick on mine. (I’ve got a HP All-In-One) I’m not an expert or anything so if anyone knows a better way to do this then please share.

So I upgraded to Win10 from Win7pro 64bit, and I used to have 60-80fps on ultimate and highest settings, now I’m barely getting 27-45ish. And that’s standing in LA with everything on medium. kitten. I have the latest drivers and I’m about to kill razr, but for now I can’t even do fractals or daily events.

I’ve tried GW2 on 2 different computers running windows 10 at home on my gaming rig I get a black screen when the game tries to load a new area. On the other PC which is just plain windows and Intel HD Graphics I get crash screens. I am attaching a picture here.

Having the same problem, re installed the game and still not working. Character faces won`t appear, then when I log on after 2-3 sec the game crashes and the same dialog box appears as silvertongue.7650 had.

Is the DirectX fix as mentioned by anx.7549 working? (p.s. I have all the latest nvidia and win 10 updates)

The only thing that is incompatible is NVidia.

Haven’t seen any post sofar of people with ATI cars having problems.

I don’t doubt many of you have real issues,but not all computers are the same. I’ve had absolutely no issues running the game on Win 10. My upgrade was fast and smooth.

I hope you all can get your issues resolved, but I just wanted folks reading this to know that not all outcomes are the same.

My machine is an OEM HP with an ATI video card.

Nvidia GTX 970 here, things have been running fine since I upgraded last week.

Just did a clean Windows 10 install, and GW2 runs the the FPS is terrible. I’m lucky to get 15 fps with everything on low.

In Win 8.1, I hardly ever dipped below 40 with max settings. Running an Alienware 17 laptop with a 780M GTX card. I’m also using the Nvidia drivers from the Dell site that are based on v353.62. I might try the latest version from Nvidia, but little worried based on different thread I just saw.

Not sure what to try.

This is why I am waiting a few months before I upgrade to win10.. You just know there going to be so many problems at the start.

I updated to Windows 10 from Win 7 for free, and GW2 goes perfectly, even better performance, but in my case i had to uninstall the program PowerNap (software from Dell), cause the monitor was flashing.

I have the shame issue mate on Windows 10 Build 10240 and i fix it from the device manager, if you see your vga with yellow exclamation mark just disable it and enable it again, unfortunately you have to do it in every system reboot. But from when i upgrade to Windows 10 Build 10586 the problem is stop, good luck.

Just wanted to point out that you replied to a 3-month-old thread.

Please don’t just assume windows 10 or any other OS is at fault its usually small things that cause errors.

Windows 10 works fine with Guildwars2 I have it installed on 4 pcs running Guildwars2 this is a error caused by corruption in a file.

4. things can cause this to happen.
1. when you updated to windows 10 gw2 didn’t backup correctly.
2. the exe is registered to the old OS.
3. Your pc isn’t fully updated driver wise.
4. the update to windows 10 didn’t copy full system files. There is always a small risk of losing minor files when upgrading OS’s

ways to fix this.
1. Right click Gw2.exe go to properties go to the compatibility tab and select Windows 7.
2. Try downloading the 64bit Exe for Guildwars.
3. Download the latest drivers for nvida/amd/intel on there website.
4. Redownload Guildwars2 from the website.
5. Go to start button select settings, and update and security check for updates see if there is a build update, this might also fix the issue.
6. if you still have problems try going command prompt and type sfc -scannow then enter it will try to find any corrupt file on the hard drive itself and try to repair it.

thanks for the info but i already have done this things, i install the Windows 10 Build 10586.3 version 1511 with clean format and the latest updates and drivers (not upgrade) and now i have new problem when i press alt tab i go to the desktop the game is stop working, in the task manager it seems is working normally but i cant choose the game window anymore i must crash the exe and open it again, i use the 64 bit client in 1920×1080 full screen, and of course i have the known issue scattering also, not only in the game but everywhare, this is unacceptable. I dont known if is fault from nvidia drivers, microsoft, arena.net or from all together but one thing is sure this is ridiculous

What I would do in your case would be in windows 10, select the windows feedback app explain your issue if other people are having same issue as you they will upvote your post basically like a LIKE button….

You can also submitted a report to Nvidia about the windows 10 drivers.

I have not played the game for months now
I have windows 10 now im trying to launch the setup
it crashes after a few secs after the launch of the setup

So every time i run this game, and ONLY this game, i can get probably about 2 or 3 mins in, and then my display drivers just stop. i’ve un-installed and re-installed and nothing is working. I run a GTX 970, with all updated drivers, and only in windows 10 does this happen, i can’t downgrade because the key won’t let me re-install windows 7. any ideas or fixes anyone knows about?
