Windows 10?
There have been some posts about crashing and errors attributed to a recent Windows update, but the posters (as far as I can recall) did not specify which Windows OS they were using.
It may, or may not, be a Windows 10-only issue.
Currently running after an update reboot ~30 minutes ago, no crashing at the moment. . will let you know if that changes, though.
Is anyone running GW2 on windows 10 technical preview? It was working fine for me but after a windows update recently all of a sudden now the game crashes (“serious error”) every time I try to launch it…it won’t even make it to the character select screen. Just wondering if this is happening for anyone else? I’m guessing it’s a Windows 10 issue.
Thanks!
Windows 10 already out? That was fast. I still have Windows XP. I guess I’ll just get Windows 23 next year. Lol
(get it? it was a joke cause they make a new one every year)

Yup. I had the same issue, but several months ago. The issue was simply that I was running the game on a laptop, and the processor was unable to handle both the Tech preview and GW2. Have you tried putting the game in Compatibility mode?
It’s what I did, and now my game runs fairly smoothly.
Compatibility mode solved my issues with the ati dll crash

Using Windows XP now is not a especially good idea, seeing as it is no longer supported and thus rather vulnerable.
Windows 8 was released in 2012. That is two years ago. Windows 10 will not be officially released until next year at the very earliest.

I give w10 preview a shot everytime i change something in my rig, hw change or tweaking but i keep getting lower frames weird frame drops so I change back everytime but it looks promising. I’d probably wait for the full release if I were you. W7/8.1 are quite solid for gaming tho.

I’ve been running on Windows 10 build 9879 (the most recent update) perfectly fine. As soon as I downloaded the most recent Guild Wars 2 update (for Wintersday) it stopped working. It now crashes to desktop with a “serious error” after click “Play” on the launcher. This indicates to me that it not an issue with Windows 10’s most recent update, but with Guild Wars 2’s most recent update.

I’m having a similar issue now. It started when I downloaded the update to my laptop yesterday (Since I’d just been playing on my hubby’s desktop lately) and now my game freezes solid at irregular intervals. (one attempt may let the game run for thirty minutes before freezing, but the next one might not even let me get past character select.) There’s also different severities. Sometimes I have to shut off the whole system, sometimes the game will send a message to Windows with a “serious error has caused Guild Wars 2 to shut down”, and sometimes, I can just end the task with Task Manager.
It doesn’t happen on my hubby’s desktop, and didn’t start on my laptop till I updated for Wintersday. My theory is that Wintersday simply included SO much extra stuff that my graphics card/processor can’t handle much of it.
The patterns I’ve noticed are that in DR, or other heavily populated maps (such as WD activities, or anywhere for daily achievements) the game freezes sooner, but if I’m standing still in a personal instance or something that has me, a few other players, and some NPCs, the game can run more smoothly, at a higher FPS, for longer.
Haven’t had any issues so far, and I’ve been playing fairly regularly since Winters Day kicked off.. running the latest build, and I think my settings are at their highest. It just takes forever to load from character selection to wherever I happen to be playing.

I’ve tried compatibility mode – No improvement. :-(
Anyone else with the same experience?

it is probably driver issue. Windows does change the abi during development and the video card driver is more likely crashing due to abi breakage.
Ok right click on the guild wars 2 icon on your screen then Properties> Compatibility then down to Compatibility mode click box if you have window 10 put it on window 8 then click on run troubleshooter (plz don’t Apply) wait till it detecting issues > then click try recommended settings game will run please keep both of Properties and Program Compatibility troubleshooter up
Do you play a necro because … last post 6 months ago.
