Hi there !

I have strange performance issues since I’ve upgraded to windows 8 x64. My specs are
8120 8 core amd
Gigabyte Ga-970a-d3
8 gb kingston ddr3 1600 ram
ssd corsair 128 gb drive
GeForce gtx660
600 W PSU

Game works very poorly – Never above 40 fps, usually at 15-20 in open world and about 10 in cities. Changing resolution / video settings has minor effect in FPS. On the same PC I have installed Windows 7 x64 and it works just fine – above 30 fps in cities, and even up to 80 in open world, it’s perfectly playable (at highest settings and 1920×1080 resolution). It’s real pain for me to play on windows 7 since it’s my “secure” system, encrypted with TrueCrypt and not intended for every day use. In Windows 8 Processor usage never goes above 40%, neither processor nor graphic card overheats. I’ve tried every solution from https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/FPS-and-Performance-based-issues-1 and other similar threads around forum and nothing works for me. Anyone have any idea ?

Windows 8 isn’t officially supported by Anet for GW2 so everything is YMMV. CPU load will never reach even close to 100% on a 8core system. (See Part 4.3) I suggest looking into updating your drivers from Nvidia.

I know it shouldn’t reach 100%, I’m mentioning it because 40% is about the right load for this CPU (or at last I think so). I’ve forgot to mention – all drivers are up to date.

TBH , i dont know why W8 would be causing this specificaly ..i have no experiance with it. All i can say is its never a good idea to jump to a new OS so soon after release, even less a good idea if its for the purpose of playing games that were never intended for said OS.

IMO there is no reason to use W8,
W7 is just as good performance wise, better compatability wise ..and better ,imo, UI wise.

My advice… Setup another W7 OS for gaming.
