I’m pretty sure I know the answer, I just want to make completely sure of things before I give up.

I bought the game a while ago, never really played it. Well, recently, some friends convinced me to give it a shot. They wanted me to play on Tarnished Coast with them. Not really knowing what I was doing, I clicked the “Transfer” button, accidentally choosing Devona’s Rest.

Now, I know you can purchase Gems and use those to pay for a transfer. Right now, it’s 800 Gems to transfer and that’s only $10.00. I don’t mind paying for it. However, I’ve been told that even if I pay for the gems, I’ll have a one-week cooldown still?

Also, I’ve already talked to Support. They denied my first ticket (which I’ll admit was kind of jumbled), but I’ve submitted a second, more clearly worded ticked in hope.

you schouldn´t submit a second one but update the first one. more tickets at the same topic will just confuse and slow down the process

The one week cooldown is because of WvW. Originally there was no cooldown and people would server hop within the match cycle and deliberately cause trouble by griefing the opposing teams of their true home server. This was a reoccurring problem. By having a week long cooldown between server transfers they stopped this. So, you may thank griefers and trolls for this feature.

You realize that you can still guest to your friend’s server and play with them? You just can’t do WvW during this time.

You also can transfer for free at the end of the cooldown period if you are willing to delete all your characters. The transfer fee is only charged if you have characters on your account; in other words, if your account has no characters or you delete all existing characters first, you will be prompted to select a new home world after creating a new character, free of charge. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Server

Just be sure to remove all valuable items from your character before deletion and put them in the bank. Soul bound items will not be usable by another character.

Also, be aware that it is 1800 gems to transfer to Tarnished Coast, or any other Very High population server. Medium population servers are free until October 17, and High population servers are 800 gems until October 17. After that time, all servers, regardless of population, will be1800 gems to transfer.

I had another question on a related topic in another post, though in reading this post I Just want to clarify the following comment.

“The transfer fee is only charged if you have characters on your account; "

Does this mean that the 1800 Gem Cost is for the transfer of “All” characters on your account or only one?

The cost for transferring is an account cost. You transfer your account, with or without characters, and everything in your account. If your account happens to have no characters, there is no cost. With characters (one or many), the cost is as noted above.
