Just throwing my two cents up here too. I upgraded to Win 8 pro x64, drivers are all up to date and I have fairly severe latency issues.
There’s about a 1 second delay on skill activation, and combat is very jittery. I’ve done the usual ping tests etc and it’s only been in game in GW2.
I’ve seen the posts about how Win 8 isn’t supported by GW yet, so just add me to the pile A-net to support Win 8 asap!

I’m on Windows 8, and have no such key delay.

I’m on win 8 as well and i have 0 problems, maybe its something else ? are you by any change using that razer synopse thingy ? i had problem with keytroke not registrering and after uninstall there is 0 problems.
Anyway i reverted back to a clean install and there is no problems, so your problem might as well be another driver as well. or that firewall rule didnt get added and so on

Nope! The only thing I have outside of a fresh Win 8 pro upgrade from Win 7 pro is Logitech stuff and a killer network card. Both are running the latest drivers for Win 8.
Nothing with a firewall rule either, it coppied all my settings over quite nicely from Win 7
Edit: I’ll try the Windows refresh. I don’t have anything I’m going to lose that I can’t recover.

If you’re having game lag it’s either Anet Server’s lagging or check your ISP connection to the server. Do a tracert “A-netserver IP” (Ex c:\tracert 123.56.10.1) instead of a simple ping. Check in between hops if there’s a sudden spike or lost connection.
Edit : Btw I’m also on Windows 8 x64 no problems as well.

You might want to check on Microsoft’s forums/website, too. It may be some system setting that needs to be tweaked. If so, then you’ll find out about it faster from MS than you will from Anet.

Posted by: Crimsonyoshi.3921
@ Alpha – I should have done that. Though now that I have, I can rule that out too. The highest number I’m looking at is about 60 ms on any hop – with no gaps.
Microsoft forums don’t appear to have anything relevant for this (though I only spent about 15-20 minutes looking).
I’ll rack my brain some more before I do a full refresh of my system.

Silly question time! Have you tried using a different keyboard and mouse?
I seem to remember from another thread that using a different keyboard or mouse fixed the issue – if memory serves the keyboard in that instance had a minor physical fault that was causing the issue.
Also, KVM switches ‘kill’ the game in my experience – I suppose that is likely nothimg to do with the porblem you have though.
I’m not saying you must try a different keyboard and mouse but it may help!

Can you attach your dxdiag as well?

Posted by: Crimsonyoshi.3921
Well, I tried a different keyboard / mouse just to rule that out – which is exactly what happened. I also broke down and did a full windows 8 reset (the kind that takes 12 hours to fully erase everything). Unfortunately that still didn’t fix the problem. I’ve tested again in other games, and it seems to be localized to GW2.
I’ve attempted switching my Ethernet wire from port to port in my machine (no luck there either) – I’m using a bigfoot killer card normally (drivers are up to date), but again, no difference between that card and my native ports. – Further expanding that all my drivers and software is 100% up to date.
As for Dxdiag, no due to the fact a-net limits the length of a post to 5001 characters. There’s nothing out of the ordinary in there though (I’ve checked it over myself)

Double post, I know. I’ve talked with my ISP and they’re 100% sure it’s not a problem with their network or routing.
I’ve fired up GW2 on a different machine running Win 7 pro from the same internet connection and it runs just fine.
I’ve contacted A-net support and they’ve confirmed Win 8 isn’t officially supported yet, as well as my best bet is troubleshooting here in the forums.
I know there’s a few of you out there running Win 8 just fine with GW2, so I don’t really know what the underlying problem is. I ran the A-net gametester checker and every test passed, every ip was connected to and there was no horrid ping in the tracert to any of them (nothing over 70ms). I guess they just need to release a patch and officially support Win 8 before I get to play again – either that or I reinstall Win 7, but that’s not going to happen as I’m happily coding away in visual studio for win 8!

I upgraded to Win 8 yesterday, and I haven’t had any issues with lag. Actually, Windows 8 seems to have fixed a minor bug that made everything on my second monitor minimize at random. You might try disabling Windows Update and seeing how the game runs without Microsoft’s updates, though. KB27856872 caused the All Programs button in Metro to suddenly stop working, and apparently it’s been causing other strange issues on other systems.
Intel Q6600, Radeon 5770, and Logitech keyboard and mouse here, on the off chance that it’s a driver issue on your end.

Good idea, I actually hadn’t thought of a Win update interfering. Though it was possible, it sadly had no effect.

You can attach your dxdiag.txt file just click on the More posting option below. Btw what keyboard are you using? Model ?
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Crimsonyoshi.3921
Normally a Logitech G15 keyboard, G13 keypad and G9 mouse. Otherwise just some Microsoft keyboards and mice that I had lying around to test the mouse / keyboard theory (No idea their model numbers – they’ve been around for a while and the tags are long worn off)
You’re right, I should read buttons next time. Here’s dxdiag!

Thanks!. Did you use Logitech own drivers or Windows 8 drivers? You might want to look at this. Check chevell’s updated post. Drivers might be the issue so you might either want to uninstall all the Keyboard drivers and follow his step.

I’m using Logitechs Win 7 drivers latest version (as they don’t have a win 8 version yet). In terms of the keyboard / mouse / gamepad, I’ve disconnected all of them, removed Logitech drivers completely, plugged in a standard mouse / keyboard and no difference.
It’s definitely not the keyboard / drivers here causing the lagging problem. I should mention again the latency issues are only local to GW2. I’ve played a few other games (WoW, SC2, Steam client games) and there is no latency issues in them what so ever.
Edit: After playing in GW2 after the huge patch for a while, the problem seems to be latency with character actions, either mine or others. People will ‘elastic band’ on the screen. However, there is no latency in the chat window. No latency in the black lions AH or bank, and I can tracert GW2 just fine with no lag spikes anywhere along the route. My highest return is around 70ms.
It seems from running GW2’s gametest client, that there are multiple servers you hit while playing, and from what I’m seeing in game, some of them are taking longer to respond (even though tracert comes back fine to each and every server) than others. This leads me to believe some servers are having problems on the application layer with Windows 8, which of course fits nicely with devs saying they don’t support Win 8 yet.

Crimsonyoshi, you are not alone… I have been having the exact same issues as you described. I also contacted tech for GW2 and they told me the same thing- windows 8 not supported yet. I have also checked drivers, reinstalled, and used diff keyboard and mouse and cant find anything that will help. GW2 worked just fine on my old set up, just upgraded to ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 motherboard with an 8 core AMD 4.0GHz processor (was full upgrade, so I didn’t expect a downgrade in performance), and went from 32bit windows xp home to 64bit windows 8. My husband just installed windows 8 pro and did the same motherboard/processor upgrade and is experiencing the same issues. Hope you find a fix… we will definitely keep looking- I know if I find anything I will post!

Have you tried removing your USB headset or any other USB device plugged in? Only the Keyboard and Mouse? Turn off UAC as well? Also did the latency occured in Win 7? How many Hops did the tracert do btw?

Hey All,
I am having exactly the same issue as Yoshi. My new laptop is W8 and is having the same problems with laggy combat and actions. The world renders fine, with no lag in cities, chat, auction house, etc. There is a one second delay after hitting an action button before the action happens, and enemies in combat “teleport” around. I can walk into the next room and run the game on my Win7 desktop just fine, and on the two other Win7 laptops in the house as well. I hope they patch this soon. I didn’t buy my laptop for gaming, but it sure would be nice to have the option.

@ everyone posting
Sorry for the delay, I was afk for a week or so there. No wireless anything, I have tried only playing with a keyboard /mouse combo and no other USB’s in. The tracert did 16 hops which is normal coming from my ISP here in Canada.
I’ve found a bit more out in the past week or so. It appears (for some odd reason) that the application layer on SOME of their servers has issues with Win 8 packets. It really shouldn’t make any difference I know, but that’s the only logical conclusion I can come too.
I’ve booted up GW2 on my Win 7 laptop beside me (different machine) and it runs GW2 fine using the same internet and same tracert path.
In short it really appears to be a problem on their end (hence they don’t support it). I’ll keep tabs on this and see if there is a fix anytime soon. I imagine with this being the gaming industry and all that the fix will be along sooner rather than later.

I’m having the same problem since I upgraded to windows 8 on my Samsung series 7 laptop. No other changes have been made on my system and all steam games play fine. GW2 is the only game I’m having lag on.

I’ve experienced this issue on both my laptop and desktop after having upgraded to Windows 8. I’ve updated all the drivers and have tried the Windows 7 compatibility mode. I still have that one second or so delay after every action.

For those with windows still watching this thread, have you tried turning off you virus protection completely as well as windows firewall -both private and domain- profiles? I was having the same isseues with key delay due to a new laptop. I recently discovered that turning off all 3 of those does away with the delay for GW2. I’m still experiencing some lag, (one about a quarter of a second) but that’s probably due to the fact that im in the pacific region. I’m pinging my server at about average 195ms. Which is still acceptable for normal gameplay. If someone who lives on preferably the far west coast or far east coast could test this for me and replay back that the issue is solved as well as their ping to their server, I would be greatly appreciative and I will post a main thread on the forums with a fix. reason for far coasts is to test it with someone who isn’t close to the servers. Oh, one more thing. after turning those off, run GW2 in compatibility mode windows 7 and I’m running in admin as well.

You are onto something. I turned everything off as you said and the lag was gone. I turned on windows firewall and lag was still gone. Turning back on my Trend Micro AV brought the lag back. I’ll post again if I find the solution.

interesting you should mention that. I have trend micro as well. I had to do everything for it to be near normal again.

Are you on a Laptop or Wireless Desktop? I am having such problems. I think it may be my connection that randomly drops, but I’m not sure. I should probably look into it further. I kind of ignore it at my level, as it doesn’t mess up my attacks.

I am on a laptop with a wired connection. the delays that we are referring to must not be a problem if your are having if you say its not messing up your attacks.
the delay is a 3-5 second delay on skill activation due to the incompatibility of windows 8. if your not having this issue then I would worry about it.

why do people rush to grab a new version of windows when the last one works wonderfully?
i know so many people on 8 who have problems with various games……I know a very few with no problems(or who claim to have none….dont know if i believe them :P )
im sticking to 7, at least till 8s more mature, till driver and app support both from vendors and from ms are more mature…..

So i have done a lot of reading up on this issue. Alpha and anyone else that has the lag issue i have a question… Are you currently running any form of Trend Mirco?
There seems to be an on going issue between Trend, Win 8 & GW2 and want to see if this is a pattern. There is also a Hotfix for this issue, that trend released (very hard to find it though) which has worked quite well if that is the issue… there is a huge patch so i cannot test this theory out yet on my PC yet…
If this is the case then just ask me to post the link, if not then try the 1.) compatibility mode. 2.) Network driver update. 3.) Turning off any and all virus protection. 4.) updating your graphics drivers (i know its not a graphical issue but some people have said this works). 5.) Keep bugging support to get the game working well on windows 8… if enough people complain then they may do something about it.

lmao oh man this must be what my issue is.
I just got a new Asus computer. i7 3770 gtx 580 8gb ram. The game runs at like 115fps and my internet speeds are about 17mbps. I tried different keyboards and Ethernet vs wifi and all sorts of things and couldn’t figure out why Im lagging only on skills for the most part. I hope it is just Windows 8 and that this gets fixed soon because this doesn’t happen on any other games and gw2 is running so amazingly otherwise. lol
I AM running that trend micro thing.. came with the pc (up until now I thought I liked it lol but if its messing up my games that’s a no no). can you post that link, seraxus?
