account upgrade problems with HoT

I recently purchased the HoT expansion online and received the serial code through my original account’s email. When I opened the e-mail with my cd key, there was a link to register my serial code and it redirected me to a screen that required complete new account information. This included email, new password, new display name, and the game serial code. I assumed that when I created this new account, there would be an option to merge my existing gw2 account with my new expansion account. Now I have my original gw2 account (without HoT) and a completely new account that is HoT enabled. I wanted to upgrade my existing account, not create a new one. Is there any way to merge these? or get a refund so I can upgrade my existing gw2 account, rather than creating an entirely new account and having to start from scratch?
