authenticator zzzz
After I set up my WinAuth it disappeared. I had to search the computer for it. After you find it you can click on the program to get it to pull up a panel where you log in with the password you gave it.
ANet may give it to you.
yeah i kept on using winAuth authenticator and its not working ….. the time is sync with the pc what do i use to log in the win auth then add>gw2>then the form again? orthe WinAuth authenticator only?
They tell you in no uncertain terms to write the code down and that it is important. The fault is completely on your shoulders.
I just set mine up this evening and I have it recorded in 4 different places including a small notebook I have by my PC just for codes and passwords like that in case both my drive and backup fails.

then how do we retrieve the secret code ….. the WinAuth is lame should have use google authenticator sigh.. how the hell can u submit a ticket if u cant play or log in your account cause the authenticator keeps popping out tsk weeee…. anet didnt even thought about this through
(edited by Kokey.6329)
Bring up WinAuth. There is a gear in the lower right, click on it. Select export and follow the instructions there which will dump out a plain text file with the game code in a format that is compatible for import with Google’s authenticator. Took me 2 seconds to find that.

PGP file? where was your file saved?

If you do need to make a ticket you do it from the forum. You don’t do it from game.
Top of page: support
Top of page: submit a request.
But search your computer first to find WinAuth and bring up that panel. That might be all you need.
ANet may give it to you.
u wont be able to log in your account in the forums as well cause your gonna be directed to an authenticator thats why im using my personal account cause i cant log in my brother’s account here and in game i narrowed the problem down what i need is the secret code which i didnt copy cause i did the 2 step in this account and this time i save the secret code and everything works fine any direction on how to get the secret code in winauth
You don’t need to be logged into the forums to make a ticket. He can pull up this site and make a ticket using the links I put on my post.
And he has to make the ticket because it’s his account. They won’t want to discuss it with anyone other than the owner of the account.
ANet may give it to you.
duh obviously i know that zzz… highly irrelevant ppff wonder im the one posting here …. obviously cause he cant post in the forums……. im asking for a way to retrieve the secret code in WinAuth not steps on how to submit a ticket….
Well in that case I’ll leave you to it. Good luck in your search.
ANet may give it to you.

Code not Key u know the secret code then u verify it then it convert to numbers so u can log in to your game
The secret key is the secret code. It should be referred to as the secret key however because the number that is generated from it is called a code. The secret key is 16 characters whereas the authenticator’s code is 6 digits.
If you have lost the ability to generate the code and have not saved the key anywhere, then there is no way to retrieve that key. You will have to wait on support to remove the authenticator manually. Note that they will require private information such as the serial number and billing information, and if you admit to account sharing, your ticket will likely be ignored.
Can explain more clearly? i am stuck at the export page…

bro u dont understand i didnt add the gw2 authenticator in WinAuth after i copied the numbers converted by the secret code i close it so in short i dont have a gw2 authenticator and cant make a new one cause it u need the old secret code get it now and i did the authentication yesterday so your steps wont work for me
(edited by Kokey.6329)
Why so stuck? If you don’t want it in a password protected zip file or a PGP encrypted file, because you simply want to find out the 16 character secret code, leave those two options unchecked and enter a file name or click on browse, choose a folder. Then click OK.
Open the file and look for guildwars. This is mine with the secret code clipped out and replaced with <secret code>.
otpauth://totp/GuildWars?secret=<secret code>&digits=6
It’s not rocket surgery.

I’m running the latest WinAuth, 3.18. You can get it to dump the keys with the export selection in the settings drop down of WinAuth, the gear.
If you don’t want the exported file to be either a password encrypted zip file or a PGP encrypted text file don’t check either option and simply click on browse to chose the folder where an plain unencrypted text file is dumped.
Open that file and look for the line containing the word “GuildWars” and your 16 character key is after “secret=” and before the “&digits=6”.
otpauth://totp/GuildWars?secret=<ThisistheSecretKey>&digits=6
RIP City of Heroes
Guess i did something wrong, there wasnt a code in the file. thanks!
Empty file, no GuildWars line or nothing between “secret=” and “&digits=6”?
RIP City of Heroes
I manage to find a winauth.xml with nothing about gw2 or anything.
Then you didn’t follow the export steps because if you did you would have gotten a .txt file.
RIP City of Heroes
i got the .txt file from export. but my file is totally blank..

Your skin will wrinkle and your youth will fade, but your soul is endless.
this wont work for me cause my gw2 WinAuth i used was replace with a new one so i dont have any authenticator in short and fyi u dont need to the export thingy u just right click in the authenticator and show secret key it gives u the exact secret code if u have an active gw2 authenticator just making things easy for the ones that didnt replace their gw2 WinAuth
problem solve case close big thanks to anet team on the support thumbs up wohoo ! close topic hehe
Look like the better way is don’t use the mobile authenticator directly but switch to authenticator install, this way, you can get the sercert code which you can use it to setup authenticator in different machines and even mobile device with Google Authenticator. Since your setup PC(Home PC) IP already is remembered(Authorized Networks). you cannot really test out. But for safe, before signoff(unauthorize Networks), use another IP device to test the 2-Step setup is working. In my case, My first time setup doesn’t work, my office PC alway give me invaild code.(But I can use the same code to unlink the 2-step from my home PC to restart setup the Authenticator again, and this time my office PC works)
Anyway, don’t alway assume it works. After Authenticatorsetup, test it in another PC/ IP address before sign out . Save the sercert code so you always can setup a working Authenticator when you need it.

you don’t need to export the file to get the sercert code, right click the renew circle button and you can can the show screct Key option.
Not talking about the 6 digit code but the 16 character key.
And there is an easier way with WinAuth I just found. If it does show Guild Wars 2 then if you right click on the Guild Wars 2 label you get an option to display the key; “Show Secret Key …”.

Update: The test is useless. I tried to login in my office again today and get the invalid field error. Then after I setup the Authenticator with the new sercert code. I can login in my office again. Look like it only works one day , I will reset it back to password way. This thing is very reliable. If my Home’ ISP changed my IP address this morning. I already call CS now since this Authenticator only works first day.
