Q:
bad gem card code
You would only have recourse with the retailer that sold you the card. Have you tried using it in-game? If it doesn’t work, again, you would need to contact Game Stop support. Good luck.
I don’t think I understand how this is a “bad gem card code.” If the code on your card did not work, kindly contact the supplier and work with them on getting a replacement.
If you mean you ran up phone charges, I don’t believe there is anything Game Stop can do about that, and I am certain that we could not assist with that.

Ok, I bought a gem card last Friday from game stop. Normally the key that is printed is a configuration of random letters and numbers. This card had only numbers, for example it looked like this 111 222 3333. I took the card to the game stop that I bought it from and they said there was nothing they could do for me because the code belongs to the vendor. I have never had this issue before, and I really hope that you can point me in the right direction to get this issue resolved.
If the clerk at the store location is not being helpful, either ask to speak to the manager of that store location, or call Game Stop Headquarters and ask to speak to someone from their Customer Support Department. Ask them to assist you. Good luck. =)
I just gave my son a 4000 gem card and it was printed and the number was printed on a high quality, lacquered, official card (not a “slip of paper”). 95% sure somebody in that store is stealing codes and sticking BS numbers in the boxes to cover it up (all retail stores have a machine to re-wrap boxes so they look factory sealed).
Go into the store and demand to speak to a manager. Show them what you got and that you tired the code and it does not work (make sure of that first…your post does not actually state that you tried to use it). Tell him you are fairly sure that the numbers come on an actual printed and lacquered card, not like this one and you suspect fraud. If he offers a new card, make him open the container himself before you leave the store. Do not accept another “slip of paper” type code. Get his business card and the store information (Gamestop store number). If he refuses to make this good, it’s a pretty sure bet he’s in on the theft being made in this store.
Despite what happens at the store, immediately call Gamestop HQ and report the incident. Often managers (or assistant managers) of stores are either complicit or well aware of their employees illicit activities (or will try to cover it up when they become aware).
The other (less than honest) way of playing this is threatening to call Gamestop HQ and see if they offer you some “incentives” to smooth things over. You can take the extra stuff and then call Gamestop HQ anyway. I am in now way condoning this action (just mentioning it as possible).
I have known more than few people that work in the retail sales industry (and worked in it myself for just over a year….sad to say) and inside theft is quite common across the board.

^Not sure where you got the ‘slip of paper’ reference, but otherwise, I agree with your advice about contacting the manager or GameStop corporate offices.
I know there was an issue with Gem Cards being printed with too few numbers, and they put it a fix. This was not an issue with GameStop but the printer of the actual cards. They get all their GTC and Gem cards from an outside vendor.
I think you have to put it in with no spaces or dashes. Have you actually tried redeeming the code? You might want to contact support if you are getting an error. They can usually help with these kind of things.
i just got this same problem in a store at the mall. got home and the cards were all phone number like cards, not the usual code. i really dont want to have to make a 30 minute trip to find out these codes are frauds…..
Oh, oh, oh. This happened to me to.
I buy Gemcards from Gamestop and more than several months ago, not sure how long ago, I noticed the cards had been changed on the back…there were less things to type in, and all numbers.
When I typed the numbers into the computer like I had always done, without spaces, the card did not work. After starting to panic, I typed the numbers in with spaces…
“xxx xxx xxxx”and IT WORKED
Remember to put in the spaces and you are good to go
Lisa.
Can confirm the fix named in the thread. If you do get a gem card with the code configured as “xxx xxx xxxx”, you do indeed need to put the spaces in as well. Your “REDEEM” button will then light up on the redemption page, and you are good to go!
In Anet’s defense, it does say in there to in put EXACTLY as you see it, but I can certainly see how that’s confusing when the longer codes have no spaces at alL! : ) Good luck everyone.
Thanks to those of you who shared — and confirmed — that the codes are very sensitive and must be entered exactly as displayed. If there are spaces, add spaces. If there are dashes, add dashes.
Sometimes I see gift cards that work when you put in a huge blob of numbers, ignoring spaces or dashes, but it sounds to me from these suggestions that the best way to add gem cards is precisely as shown.
To the OP (Rasputen): Could you please try entering exactly as shown and report your experience? If the card does not work at that point, I’d strongly encourage you to take it back to the store and request a replacement.
