ok my laptop broke and I play on my little brothers computer. which is protected by the mother of all family safety settings and stuff so when I try to open guild wars a window pops up that asks for admin password EVERY time. and I do NOT have admin access so I have to go to my parent and get it typed in or, the more likely case I cnt play becuz thy aren’t home. but I cannot figure out how I can make it so that a user OTHER then admin can even gain permission. ive tried. even with my parent on admin trying to give it. and i have no idea what wrong. so how would admin let me play without having to get a password permission thing popping up every time? this is really irritating me and ive searched all over the internet with not a single answer tht worked.

I am not sure as to what OS or software, if any, your parents are using to lock down the computer.

From your post I gather every time you run GW2 it prompts you to enter the admin user/pass and does not give a way to save the credentials, AKA “remember” check box. One way to give you access would be to have your parents give you permission to run the application as an admin and save the credentials. They can try r-clicking the shortcut to GW2, select properties then try ruining it as an admin under the compatibility mode tab. This may not work but worth a try. You could also talk to your parents about creating another user on that computer and then give the new user the needed permissions to run GW2.

Your parents could be using third party software in order to lock down the computer, if this is the case they will need to consult the software documentation or contact support.

I don’t know of a way around it other than changing the user account to have admin privileges or asking for the password (which kinda’ defeats the purpose). Windows implements permissions quite poorly compared to Linux.

OP:
If you’re on Win 7 Pro (and I’m assuming Win 8 ), you can do a 1-time setup to have a program run as an admin.

Basic gist is to create a shortcut, and have it target something like:
runas /user:username /savecred gw2.exe

This way you can run it once, have your parents type in the password, and never have the issue again. If you don’t have this option, though, probably out of luck.

edit: may have to put the gw2 path in there, been a while since I’ve messed with it and not at home.

You could also r-click the GW2 shortcut>Properties>Advanced button>Select Run as admin. This may allow saving of the credential. Of course an admin will need to make this change.
