Hello everybody, i am the owner of I7 and the game is running smooth for me until there isnt lots of players fighting a boss or WvWvW zergs, but even in dungeons its like 20 fps.
Due to this problem i cant fully enjoy WvWvW and these dragon events i would like to participate in. its unplayable, like 10 fps or 7. I have the newest drivers from nvidia. The computer should be clean, iam not sure but that shoulntd be a problem. What is more bothering me is my i7 920 t 3ghz. when i opened task manager i can see its using pretty much every core at 60 usage. Is this game so demanding that even i7 920 cant handle this game ? and of course iam not using the best quality settings in the game. i post some screenshots where you can see exactly the usage of cores.

My pc Setup :
GPU : EVGA GTX 570 SC
CPU : I7 920 2,67GHZ @ 3GHZ ( hyperthreading is off)
HDD : Hitachi hdd 256gb
PSU : Enermax 625 pro 82+ (3 or 2 years old)
Motherboard : Asus p6t deluxe v2
Memory : Corsair 4gb 1204 mhz

Hope for your suggestions guys
will do anything in order to help me

OC higher, 3.6/3.8 u should see a decent boost, not anywhere near to sandy/Ivy performance but still pretty playable. Note GW2 is no optimizaed, it runs poorlly most, so u need highlly OCed processors to make it enjoyable. In Lion’s Arch what kind of FPS do u see min/max?

cant overlock it higher though. i am still using the cooler which comes with the package. if i overclock it higher my temps wont be any good. In LA iam getting 30-20 fps mostly its 25 fps. min 13 max 30

Don’t expect any patches for performance. Either accept the crappy frame rates, get an aftermarket cooler and oc or get another game to play.

best cheap cooler http://pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-rr212e20pkr1 should do the job, make sure to get the EVO version…..

heres what I use
http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xigmatek-cpu-cooler-aegirsd128264

make sure to grab some good thermal paste like
http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/thermal-paste/#m=128&sort=a3

those should help alot with overclocks……

but yeah, this game really needs a 6-8ghz tricore cpu to run 1/2 decent…….wish anet would post where they got theirs.

I run an I7 2600 with a Radeon 7970 GE, 16GB RAM playing at 2560×1600 resolution and I get respectable framerates even in massive WvWvW battles.

Your video card is going to affect the performance of the game more than your CPU.

Primus: bullkitten, read the FAQ, anet flat out say the games cpu bound far more then gpu bound.

read the FAQ….cpu matters far more then gpu or any other single factor in gw2 performance.

for you primus, read up, read the rigs many people have that smoke yours and dont get higher then 30fps in WvWvW zergs……you may find 20-30fps acceptable, but many of us do not, because, with a system like mine or SolarNova’s or many others, we shouldnt have to OC to get a solid 60fps in a game like this……the only reason it runs this bad is anet smegged up.

Actually the acceptable framerates that I am referring to are in to 50-60 fps range. I occasionally dip down into the 40s with massive onscreen WvWvW battles. Still much higher than the 24/30 that makes games playable.

Keeping in mind that all the eye candy is turned to the maximum possible setting.

The only game that I’ve ever had a problem with was SWTOR. But then again everybody else had problems with it as well. What made that game much worse was Bioware telling everybody that its not their game client that is the problem, rather that it was the player’s PC. Regardless of the fact that every single other game that I played before SWTOR came out, including the massive Skyrim ran near flawlessly at close to 60 FPS.

I just hope that ANet doesn’t stoop that low.

again read the FAQ , they have gone that low.

1. they say you should get a 3570k or 3770k and overclock to 4.5 or better for this game.

2. they tell people with xp or 32bit windows to get 64bit windows to fix a game crash and even bsod issue with the gw2 client.

3. they still market it with min specs of core2duo and windows XP (32bit) despite the fact people with those systems cant even get decent fps with the game at min res with everything set at low…..

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/FAQ-Frequently-Asked-Questions-Compilation/
read that thread/info Primus, Anet are no better then todays bioware…..

note: I had no trouble running swtor’s client, I just found the game extreamly boring….WoW with a starwars theme…..

alot of game developers want to blame peoples computers…..systems like ours shouldnt have to overclock or suffer with poor FPS………

1. your i7 is very old and very underpowerd. most modern i7 are 3.5ghz stock speed and OC to 4.5ghz or higher.
also try building your own pc designed for gameing and not buy off the shelf pc.

2. Minimum specs is not about the game runing smooth its about the gameing being able to load up to title screen and enter the game world.
or if u still dont listen its so it can install and not have any errors when trying to run the game.

3. gw2 is useing 3 heavy threads and this casuses bottle necks. for somereason game designers are ignoreing the fact that alot of ppl have high end machines with hyperthreading.
Its getting lame when an mmo launches and has poor performance (tera swtor gw2).

wake up dev team its 2013 not 2004 who uses single threads anymore when most players have hyperthreaded quad cores !

Well hyper-threaded quad cores aren’t that good too you know.
Look at amd, they have 8 physical cores… that’s much faster in multitasking than 8 logical cores. Go try to run 2 vm’s has good has the original machine (same ram, same cores)…
It’s not because you can add 2 virtual cores on 1 physical that it will be better. You still have to share all the hardware, shared ram, shared bus…

Just because you have an i7 doesn’t mean you have a good one. i7-920 is quite crappy to be honest.

You should consider upgrading to an i5-2500K, i5-3570K, or an i7-3770K.

I own a 3770K and when overclocked from 3.5 to 4.7GHz, I notice quite a big difference in FPS.

i’m also running a bloomfield (i7-950) and their still pretty good CPU’s except for the hellfire they produce which limits their OC potential.

mine’s at 3,7GHz, PvE: 60FPS, LA: 50~60FPS, zerg: 25~40FPS / high quality settings, reflections: terrain&sky – if i set shadows to medium, i get an overall FPS boost of 5.

same framerates @3,1GHz, 3,5GHz, 3,6GHz, 3,9GHz and 4,1GHz. no changes in performance…in GW2 at least. (i’m not surprised)
yeah…i was bored lol.
so don’t expect any noticeable performance boost when overclocking, since our CPU’s are pretty much the same deal. our overall systems are different, tho…who knows, you might be surprised in case you’re overclocking. (of course, after you’ve installed a better cooling device )

The first generation i7’s can still pull their weight in this game. Albeit not as well as a second gen or third gen i7. I have a 930 and at stock it was really showing its age, but once I overclocked it from 2.8Ghz to 4.1Ghz it gave me a noticeable performance boost. The speed boost gave it life to last until Haswell comes out in June and maybe even Broadwell in 2014 depending how well Haswell performs.

I don’t recall what frames I was getting in a crowded LA at stock, but now I get a solid 28+ with it at 4.1 staring south at the Mystic Forge.

Noone should have to OC their processors to play this game at a respectable level. EVER.

Indeed, bloomfied i7 CPUs can still be pretty solid for gaming just need a lot of cooling, if u have a good board u can overclock tha hell of those chips. Honestly u need more than 3.6ghz on those CPUs to make GW2 enjoyable.

guys the 920 and 930 and such are good chips, they need overclocked but, they where sold to alot of people looking for a value overclock, and the fact is with proper cooling they can do that.

my 8350 is faster but, its also alot newer.

my buddy just put an NZXT Kraken X60 on his old 980x(it was on air till then), he hit 4.4x very easily, hes still trying to get it to 4.5 but, in his case, the 980x was a good buy, it will hold him at least 1 more generation.

what I find funny is, the same people who attack AMD users of any kind also are attacking other intel users telling them to get sandy or ivybridge chips and overclock them……

why is it that people are attacking users for something thats anets fault?

please, stop being blind anet fanboi’s, Honestly, I love gw1 and gw2 is a great game BUT it runs like warmed over donkey deification even on the best systems….

I dont want to imagine trying to play it on a system thats mid range or heaven forfend, min specs…….

I think a good sign of how BS the min specs are is how anet tell people to get 64bit windows to fix game crashes with their 32bit game targeted at xp users…..
