Same tried a few times now and wont connect
Same here, no connection for 30 min
Same thing here – for the past hour or so. “Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…” – tried on three different systems all with the same results.
Having the same problem
Yeah, I am getting the same problem. Any ideas on why?
Ditto, tried for last 10 minutes.
I logged out at 2:30 CST and when I tried to log back in at 6:45 CST I got the same message, and as of 11:52 CST still cannot connect.

Having the same issue ….there’s an old thread from about a year ago with a bunch of people having this same problem. Everyone (including anet support) was throwing around different ideas as how to fix the issue with no results (I tried some of them myself to no avail). It seemed the issue resolved itself after some time; this leads me to believe it is a server problem. To further verify this, I have GW2 installed on 2 computers and both are having the same issue.
P.S. Don’t uninstall/install the game as you won’t be able to reinstall it as long as this complication exists….unless you want to wait who knows how long for the game to completely re-install for no particular reason…..

FYI: Cannot even uninstall the game because of connection issues. So just having to wait it out.
Tried again this morning with no luck. It’s been over 12 hours now and still the same issue everyone else has described. Anet, you there?
I am having the same issue.
Well, this sucks for all of us, but I am glad it’s not just happening to me. I thought perhaps my computer wonked out and something got changed. Guess we will have to standby and wait till something gets fixed/changes. So much for getting dailies done!
Based on another thread, it looks like this issue may be specific to CenturyLink users, particularly in Colorado and the mid-west. I have contacted CenturyLink and been told that they will “expedite” resolving the issue. Again – would be nice to get some response from Anet as well.
Having same problem in North Dakota as well. stuck at 0kbs no login option, was playing last night fine.
had same issue in South Dakota, not through centurylink. no conection with GW2 but fine everywhere else online. restarted my computer and was able to log in without problem. 11:22am local time
Has there been any response from ArenaNet on this issue yet?
Has there been any response from ArenaNet on this issue yet?
Anet has been silent as far as I can tell from both this thread and the thread under Bugs.
Restarting computer did not help nor restarting router.

some customer support would be nice …
Hi guys,
We are investigating this issue. Can you help us by sending us the client logs? Here’s how to do it:
1. Run the Gw2 executable with the “-log” argument. The easiest way is to open a command prompt, go to your install directory, and then execute “gw2.exe -log”
2. A few seconds after you receive the connection error message, close the client.
3. Post your client log here. You can find the log at "C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.log
Please also let me know:
1. When does the error occur? Is it right after you start the app, before you get to the login screen?
2. Where are you located.
We will keep you posted with our progress as well.
Thank you!
Hey folks,
Can you also please let us know your ISP? It could be very useful info to have that info, and if you post it here, the team will note that detail, since they’re actively investigating, as you can see above.
Thanks much, and thanks for your patience as we investigate.

Maybe this will help. I am located in Tennessee. I am having same issue with two different accounts , two different computers, same gateway. However , when I turn my PIA.exe ( a virtual Private network tunnel) on and change my ip, It works.

Has anyone else tried this?
I am having the same problem, my game client tries to log in and I get the error connecting. I cannot even access the guildwars2.com website or arena.net. I am trying from South Africa so no connection at all to the ISP you guys are using or even the region. I used a VPN with a states address and I connected no problem. Maybe there is a problem with some auth server??? In fact the only reason I can reply on this forum is because I could authenticate on the website while on the VPN. I cannot do that from my local address in Cape Town.
I want to think I have found the problem. Everyone I have seen so far is is reporting century link as the ISP. I have the same problem I have not been able to connect since last night. I am in Minnesota, St. Paul.
I disconnected my laptop from my home network and used my cell as a hotspot and I was able to log in no problem. There seems to be some problem between Century Link and the Anet Servers
I’m on CenturyLink as well and I’m having the same problem.
If that’s the case, then Anet needs to get in touch with CenturyLink post-haste to get this nonsense fixed, because you know what kind of response one of us customers is going to get if we call them.
<snip>CenturyLink: It’s not our fault
Me: Can you please transfer me to someone that knows something?
CenturyLink: Sorry, none of those people are reachable by telephone.

So did a little research and there might be a connection between my ISP in South Africa and centurylink. Who knew

Put a ticket in with Anet and got a timely response (thanks guys). The log info above matches up with what I got – a 504 error. I also contacted CenturyLink this morning but have not heard back from them. Since most people can log in and the issue seems isolated to CenturyLink users, I’m thinking the issue is somewhere on their side. At least Anet is looking into now. (Let’s go, let’s go – we’re closing in on Friday evening!)
I also just got in using the fix:
gw-64.exe with the -assetsrv set to 174.35.56.164
About a year ago, Chris Cleary posted the following:
If you are still having problems, try adding this to your GW2 Shortcut Target:
-assetsrv 62.154.232.187:80
Here is a list of alternatives to also try:
194.25.94.170:80
174.35.71.9:80
151.249.90.199:80
93.188.135.37:80
62.154.232.194:80You can do this by right clicking on your GW2 Shortcut and adding the above text to your Target field. For example your target should look like this:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -assetsrv 62.154.232.187:80
Direct link to the forum post:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Connection-error-s-detected-Retrying-100/first#post5016682
Going down that list, the IP that worked for me was: 174.35.71.9:80
Which is also the IP recommended in the following Guild Wars 2 Support Knowledge Base Article:

Hey so as a seen here, most people who are having this problem are with centurylink, I am as well with them and when I used hot spot on my phone to connect to my computer, everything worked just fine! so check up with that
Where’d you get the IP for the patch server?
Lookup the IP of assetcdn.101.ArenaNetworks.com using various DNS servers, or drwkwiejruot6.cloudfront.net. The IPs can change over time however, so don’t set it and forget it.
GW2 uses a CDN service to deliver patches, meaning there’s various patch servers around the world, and which one you’re assigned to is determined by your DNS. In this case, this specific patch server is down.
I also just got in using the fix:
gw-64.exe with the -assetsrv set to 174.35.56.164
This also worked for me. Guessing there is some type of dns issue then, specific to CenturyLink?
Thanks for the tip!

Figured out how to easily fix the issue….
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/93290408-Problems-Downloading-or-Patching
as the winsock reset is irrelevant to the issue at hand:
1. go to the “slow or stuck downloads” section and perform the following actions. The instructions are somewhat vague so I’ll try to be a bit more comprehensive.
2. right click your GW2 DESKTOP icon and select “open file location”. In the open folder, right click the primary Gw2 icon (not Gw2-64) and create shortcut. The primary icon IS the .exe file even though it doesn’t show.
3.It will create a new icon within the open folder (Gw2 – Shortcut). Anets directions specify to rename it although it doesn’t matter either way. Right click and select properties
4.Copy and paste -assetsrv 174.35.71.9:80 in the target line section AFTER the last (")(quotation mark); make sure there is a space between as well. Click OK and double click the created shortcut (Gw2 – Shortcut). Problem Solved!!!
