^Make sure you place a ‘space’ before the command line argument.
It would be helpful if you took a screenshot and posted it here.
Good luck.
I was able to get log in and play with the -assetsrv 174.35.71.9:80 my entire shortcut looks like this:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\Gw2-64.exe” -assetsrv 174.35.71.9:80

See above.
Fixed it by allowing dns relay in gateway under ipv4 and 6.

Hey folks,
Can you also please let us know your ISP? It could be very useful info to have that info, and if you post it here, the team will note that detail, since they’re actively investigating, as you can see above.

Figured out how to easily fix the issue….
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/93290408-Problems-Downloading-or-Patching
as the winsock reset is irrelevant to the issue at hand:
1. go to the “slow or stuck downloads” section and perform the following actions. The instructions are somewhat vague so I’ll try to be a bit more comprehensive.
2. right click your GW2 DESKTOP icon and select “open file location”. In the open folder, right click the primary Gw2 icon (not Gw2-64) and create shortcut. The primary icon IS the .exe file even though it doesn’t show.
3.It will create a new icon within the open folder (Gw2 – Shortcut). Anets directions specify to rename it although it doesn’t matter either way. Right click and select properties
4.Copy and paste -assetsrv 174.35.71.9:80 in the target line section AFTER the last (")(quotation mark); make sure there is a space between as well. Click OK and double click the created shortcut (Gw2 – Shortcut). Problem Solved!!!
This Worked for me. I also was not able to create a log for some reason.
Problem arose last night 9/8/16 sometime after 6:00 PM Mountain. I logged off shortly after the dailies reset and was unable to log back at 10:00 PM Mountain.
Located in Denver and using Centurylink ISP.

To uninstall GW2, you would have had to right click the shortcut and select uninstall or used the -uninstall option in a shortcut. Are you sure you know where GW2 was installed and are looking in the right folder?
If you’re sure you’re looking in the right folder, if Gw2.dat still exists there, you can simply download Gw2Setup.exe, rename it to Gw2.exe and place it in that folder along side Gw2.dat to recover. If Gw2.dat isn’t there, do the same, but it’ll need to patch the entire game. To use the assetsrv command, open the folder where Gw2.exe is and simply enter the following into the folder’s address bar: Gw2.exe -assetsrv 174.35.71.9

I got kicked from the game yesterday at this time and haven’t been able to log back in since. I’ve tried everything from my end to fix this issue and can’t. It reads Connection Error…Retrying.
Ty Frankendeath finally able to log in, very weird to say the least that it (the problem) occurred to CenturyLink users only.

Thank you all for sending the client logs. We believe the issue is caused by regional ISPs. There are outage reports from CenturyLink customers in the same areas. It’s likely causing network issues between our game clients and our CDN provider and possibly between the CDN edge nodes to our backend servers.
I see some players having success working around this issue by using the “-assetsrv” command argument point to a specific IP. The workaround could work temporarily. It is not recommended for the future because it connects the game client to our old CDN provider. It will be deactivated later this year.
This shortcut patch thing doesn’t work for Mac, only windows, I still can’t get on
Update: Players have reached out to their ISP (Century Link is often mentioned) and the company has recommended a quick and easy process that helped the player get back into the game. So if you’re experiencing this issue, please do contact your provider and ask them for troubleshooting recommendations.
Thx Gaile for the reply, but can’t you just post what the quick and easy process is for everyone, so we don’t have to spend hours on the phone with tech support. : )
Or would a fellow Centurylink user that contacted them, please post the quick and easy process. Thank you fellow gamer.

Fair enough. But, here’s the bit: I don’t know your region, and I am not sure of your provider (That’s the generic “your” not you specifically.)
What I’d like to suggest is that players who have found a work-around please post here. Share your Region and your Provider name, so that people across the country, with a different provider, don’t find themselves trying pointless measures.
So like this:

I’ve given up trying to log in until I can get a hold of my brother (I am not smart about the computer at all) or I see someone say it’s been fixed.
Same problem here. Was on earlier this afternoon. Was hoping to grab Teq before the daily ended. But no luck I guess. That’s what I get for abandoning Anet for a year and a half thanks to crummy internet
Currently talking with Centurylink right now, am located in colorado. I will update with my progress once I’m done. I’ve been having a very slow wifi connection lately as well.

ISP is Vast
My provider is: Centurylink
I am in Minnesota
This is what I did to work around this problem
called Centurylink, restart router, tried 2 different computers (both Mac)
Seem to be connected now… just power cycled my modem… doesn’t make sense cause everything else online gaming wise (e.g., xbox live) worked…
My provider is Century Link
My city, state is Denver, Colorado
I did the cmd and ping, I still can’t get into login screen.
Just got off the phone with CenturyLink. They say that they have had several complaints regarding this issue but not how to fix this. Couldn’t understand the person and all the stories he was telling me and maybe a few bits of advise on how to fix this. Not a big help. Have to see if I can get someone who understands computers a little more than me to come and do what needs to get done so I can play.

- I am in [state] or [city, state]

I called Century Link and they told me to contact Arena Net, not the ISP. I am located in Denver, Colorado.

Contacted Vast tech support and was told there is nothing they can do with problems like this. The internet is fine and other online game services have no issues so no go!
This is irritating that nothing seems to work.
My provider is CenturyLink.
I am in Colorado Springs, CO.
I created a batch file (system paths will vary) based on info above so that I could successfully hit the login server directly:
cd c:/
cd Program Files (x86)
cd Guild Wars 2
Gw2-64.exe -assetsrv 174.35.56.164
My provider is CenturyLink.

Gw2-64.exe -assetsrv 174.35.56.164
Did that work for you? I’m trying to run my Gw2Setup-64.exe this way (I uninstalled yesterday hoping the reinstall would fix the issue before I learned more about the problem) but it has the same connectivity error for me.
Some of the CDN servers are basically down (bad response), so in those cases, it’s not an ISP issue, but rather a problem between cloudfront and ArenaNet.
Using a different asset server is required at this point, which some may do by simply flushing their DNS (ipconfig /flushdns). As an alternative to the IP listed above, you can try: Gw2.exe -assetsrv 52.84.25.238
As an alternative to using the -assetsrv command, you can try changing your DNS instead, such as using Google. Follow their instructions, then finish up by running the command: ipconfig /flushdns

Simply rename Gw2Setup-64.exe to Gw2-64.exe, place it wherever you’d like to install it, then do Gw2-64.exe -assetsrv 174.35.56.164
First off, we should not have to jump through all of these hoops to play your game. My husband and I log into this game every day. We played Wednesday evening just fine. Thursday comes around and we can not log in. My husband did some research and made a change and we played just fine. Now it’s Friday and we can not log in again. I did try some of the things that was asked. They didn’t work. I can’t seem to make a log. But I hate windows 10 anyway.
We are with Suddenlink.
Between the 4 computers we all play around 6 different games. WoW, D3, Marvel Heroes, Star Trek Online, League of Legends, Elder Scrolls Online. I log into steam and origins and play a number of games from them as well. We have no issues getting on to any of these other games.
I hope that you can solve the problem. I do like your game. But I am going to go play something that I know I can connect to.

The specific .exe file will depend on your system. I have a buddy that had to use the 32-bit Gw2.exe instead of Gw2-64.exe. Best cure would be for the powers that be to figure out the solution.
I have no problem blaming anet for problems – don’t get me started on wvw. But the specificity of the ISP (CenturyLink) leads me to believe the issue is there.
ISP CenturyLink
Missouri
As stated in previous posts, the only thing working for me is using Gw2-64.exe -assetsrv 174.35.71.9:80
Post on page one lists others that may work as well until there is a fix between CenturyLink and Anet
If you are still having problems, try adding this to your GW2 Shortcut Target:
-assetsrv 62.154.232.187:80
Here is a list of alternatives to also try:
194.25.94.170:80
174.35.71.9:80
151.249.90.199:80
93.188.135.37:80
62.154.232.194:80
You can do this by right clicking on your GW2 Shortcut and adding the above text to your Target field. For example your target should look like this:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -assetsrv 62.154.232.187:80
(edited by SeEkEr.2549)
I am in Missouri and have Suddenlink as my ISP.
The -assetsrv 62.154.232.187:80 workaround works for me for now.
I contacted Suddenlink and was told it is not their issue but with the game.
