game client will not get to log-in screen
This one worked for me, thanks!
Figured out how to easily fix the issue….
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/93290408-Problems-Downloading-or-Patching
as the winsock reset is irrelevant to the issue at hand:
1. go to the “slow or stuck downloads” section and perform the following actions. The instructions are somewhat vague so I’ll try to be a bit more comprehensive.
2. right click your GW2 DESKTOP icon and select “open file location”. In the open folder, right click the primary Gw2 icon (not Gw2-64) and create shortcut. The primary icon IS the .exe file even though it doesn’t show.
3.It will create a new icon within the open folder (Gw2 – Shortcut). Anets directions specify to rename it although it doesn’t matter either way. Right click and select properties
4.Copy and paste -assetsrv 174.35.71.9:80 in the target line section AFTER the last (")(quotation mark); make sure there is a space between as well. Click OK and double click the created shortcut (Gw2 – Shortcut). Problem Solved!!!
I’m in Tennessee on Charter.
Worked this Morning, occasionally works now but kicks me after several minutes.

Okay so here’s what I did doesn’t involve changing my command line for Guild Wars 2. It seems that perhaps Qwest/Centurylink has had DNS issues before. I’ve had issues about two years ago with this and should have tried this first.
I set my DNS servers to use Google’s DNS’.
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
Guild Wars 2 comes on line just fine the way it always had before. If you are not sure how to set your DNS choices, I’m sure you can Google it.
Check here.
Just got off the phone with CenturyLink. They say that they have had several complaints regarding this issue but not how to fix this. Couldn’t understand the person and all the stories he was telling me and maybe a few bits of advise on how to fix this. Not a big help. Have to see if I can get someone who understands computers a little more than me to come and do what needs to get done so I can play.
State: Iowa
Must have been the same one I had to spell G-U-I-L-D to 5 times before he finally told me that it wasn’t CenturyLink’s problem and to contact Anet.

I did contact Telkom, they say the matter must be taken up with Anet after all, every other online game and facility does work with Telkom.

Yup, it’s been almost 48 hours now that I haven’t been able to log in. I called CenturyLink and they said the issue is on ANet’s side, not theirs, there is nothing they can do.
Can someone tell whoever “ANetCSLead” is that the issue is not in fact resolved?

Still unable to connect to game. Also a Century Link customer in Colorado. Concerned that some are saying that this issue is resolved. My trouble ticket #2359921 is still open and no new info from support since yesterday afternoon.
Hey all, still using Centurylink, in the Denver Colorado area. Game is working just fine for me still after changing my DNS servers to Google’s.
https://support.opendns.com/entries/95614747-Windows-10-Configuration-Instructions
This article shows how to do it if you are unsure how to set your DNS manually. After you set your DNS I recommend flushing DNS cache and renewing your IP connection. This can all be done through a command prompt.
Easiest way to run a command prompt is go to your start button and type cmd. Windows will pull up Command Prompt. Right click it and run as administrator. (You don’t need quotation marks for commands) First command to type is “ipconfig /release”, then type “ipconfig /flushdns” and lastly type “ipconfig /renew”. Once Windows renews your connection, you can check that you are using the manually input DNS servers, by typing “ipconfig /all”. Look for DNS servers and make sure it’s the choice you put in. Close your command prompt window and try running GW2 normally.
I can’t guarantee it will work for you, but it does for me. I was able to raid and fractal last night and am still logging in today with no issues now.

Just an update for those on CenturyLink, in Missouri. I tried several different dns numbers, whether it was Centurylink, embarq, qwest and none seemed to work. I switched to different dns numbers not associated with Centurylink, embarq, qwest and it now works. If you switch to google, opendns or any other dns that are close to your area, you should be up and running. After testing this for the last 3 hours, I’m concluding that it is on Centurylink side.

I still cannot get into the game with Telkom. I posted some info on this on MyBroadband forums, seems like we are not alone. Pretty much everyone using Telkom as an ISP would not be able to access GW2 servers.
I am currently using Vodacom 3G to play, works well.
I am afraid it appears to be a very small number of people affected so I doubt Anet will take this very seriously.
I am just hoping that which ever part of the infrastructure is responsible for this gets sorted out one day or another.
So it seems as though it’s not just CenturyLink customers that are having problems connecting. As such then, can we still really state that it’s on CenturyLink’s side and not Anet’s problem?
I received this email today.
Thanks for getting back to me. I wanted to let you know that we have fixed the issue and you should be able to log back into the game now. If you are unable to do so, please try again within an hour. I hope this helps! I look forward to your response. ?

Some of the CDN servers are basically down (bad response), so in those cases, it’s not an ISP issue, but rather a problem between cloudfront and ArenaNet.
Using a different asset server is required at this point, which some may do by simply flushing their DNS (ipconfig /flushdns). As an alternative to the IP listed above, you can try: Gw2.exe -assetsrv 52.84.25.238
As an alternative to using the -assetsrv command, you can try changing your DNS instead, such as using Google. Follow their instructions, then finish up by running the command: ipconfig /flushdns
Did that work for you? I’m trying to run my Gw2Setup-64.exe this way (I uninstalled yesterday hoping the reinstall would fix the issue before I learned more about the problem) but it has the same connectivity error for me.
Simply rename Gw2Setup-64.exe to Gw2-64.exe, place it wherever you’d like to install it, then do Gw2-64.exe -assetsrv 174.35.56.164
i did this and it worked for me. But Anet said they are removing these lines of code/ips soon? So what are we suppose to do when that happens?
Im in Ohio, i use Cincinnati Bell and i am having this issues too. Everything else failed to fix it minus the one line of code you mentioned; the -assetsrv 174.35.56.164.
Its the ONLY thing that fixed it. I was playing just hours ago, then i try to get back on and its not working anymore. All my friends can play the game outside of my state , and even country, and i can play other games just fine.

I am having the same issues with Cincinnati Bell provider in Ohio. And there are people having this issue who arent using Century Link. It is not just Century Link users who are encountering this issue.
Anet has told us to contact our service providers and they all say the same thing; that its on Anets side. But Anet says its on our ISP side. So right now theres only a few fixes, some work for a handful of people, others it doesnt work for.
I was only able to log in with the -assetsrv 174.35.56.164. command but Anet has said NOT to use this as it can cause complications with downloading patches AND they specifically said they are going to remove the -assetsrv soon. So i have removed that line of text since anet is just gonna get rid of it anyway and am just not playing the game i suppose.
So those of us who cant get logged on are screwed for now.

Thanks for info. I have tried a few things, but feel a bit leery of doing so right now, as I’m not as techy savvy as some. I’d rather wait. There’s never been a problem they haven’t been able to fix, eventually. Don’t want to make matters worse. I have no problems with GW1 so I guess I can hang out in the Abbey, like in the old days. Might be fun!
Still having same problem with Century Link, they say Anet has the problem, and will not connect me with a Supervisor. Have tried all of the suggested links and solutions to no avail. But found GW2 has actually been deleted from my computer! Have tried to reinstall but run into the same error message. More than frustrating and I guess time for a new ISP, if another was available.

Deleted from your computer? I havent had that issue but man that sucks.
The only thing that worked for me was adding the -assetsrv at the end with a string of numbers but Anet has specifically stated they do not recommend or want players to do this because they are shutting down the server that the numbers go to. Or something along those lines. Im not tech savy. I got the game to work and load by doing that, but after Anet said not to do it, despite it being on their website located here

i have just given up. My ISP says its Anets fault, anet says its the ISP’s fault. Neither want to take responsibility. I have tested it on every computer in the house, my roommates cannot get on aswell but we can access all other mmo’s and internet. Its just specifically Gw2 that is “Dead”.
Im not even using Century Link, just incase anyone is wondering. I have Cincinnati Bell in Ohio, and it was working just fine last night, then today its not. I STRONGLY disbelieve that changing ISP’s is going to fix it and some of us cant do that to begin with, i was having no issue all this time with Cincinnati bell and GW2 playing nice. Its either Anet , or the ISPs, and since so many people with different IP’s are saying they are having the same issue, i believe its Anet.
Still not possible to log into GW2 from South Africa with ISP Telkom.
Vodacom ISP works fine.

It’s now been 5 days and I am still unable to log on.
Its either Anet , or the ISPs, and since so many people with different IP’s are saying they are having the same issue, i believe its Anet.
That is an illogical conclusion. If it was on ANet’s end then the vast majority of players would be having problems rather than a small minority.
I am having the same problem from South Africa since Friday.
My ISP is Telkom, but it works fine if I log in through MTN (my cellphone).
Through my telkom router i cant even access the guildwars2.com page.
I have tried all of the “solutions” people have mentioned here but nothing seems to work.

that is a valid point. But so many people with different IP’s are having this exact same issue as of late. Alot of the complaints are aimed at Century Link, but others outside of Century Link are having the exact same problem. If its not Arena Net, and its not the IP’s then where is the issue coming from? I have been on the phone all night with my IP and still am currently as i write this, being transferred to their tech department now after many transfers, and am waiting on their reply on the phone.
