In all honesty GW2 doesnt run to well on laptops. its mainly down to the CPU.

That said, i dont know what ur current PC specs are so i cant say if it will be an improvment or not.

That Laptop only has a 740m card, which means its not even within the gaming range of cards. If ur goign into the 700 series cards u want a 760m atleast. Im not saying GW2 wont run with a 740m, it just wont be able to run on very hgih settings or resolutions. GW2 isnt particularly graphicaly intensive so it would be ok, but other games that are, would suffer.

EDIT: that particular laptop also looks very thin, it would likely have cooling issues with extended high load. Though i cant say for sure.

This laptop will run the game at high settings well enough for regular play. You’ll want to turn them down for WVW though if you do that. The processor can handle all but huge zergs though. Well, maybe it can handle some pretty harsh zergs but I don’t think it could do the epic zergs. Not very well anyway.

SolarNova: Laptops can run Guild Wars 2 fairly well but the sad reality is that they have to be expensive high end gaming laptops. An i7 3630QM with GTX 670MX can do it and anything beyond that will do better. My buddy’s MSI GT60 with i7 4700MQ and GTX 770M plays the game no problem (and even BF4 at ultra preset which includes MSAAx4 but BF4 is not a comparison to GW2, but I’m just adding that as an example of how powerful the machine is. 50+ FPS averaging)

I know that a Sandy Bridge i5 and GT540M can play the game fairly well on medium settings with 1366×768. I’d have to wager that this HP Envy here can do the same settings at 1920×1080 fairly well.

But for that price, 1500 dollars for this HP Envy, it’s totally not worth it at all when you can get a laptop with a GPU more than three times as powerful for the same price, such as an Asus G750JX or MSI GT series GT60/70 (same price for both units literally the only difference is one is 15.6 and the other is 17.3) and possibly 50 dollars less for the MSI.

I even went and checked for ya on the MSI ones.
15.6:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152404 100 dollars less than that HP Envy
(Buddy of mine has the 15.6 version and it’s amazing. Totally worth the performance and visual aesthetic)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152452 same price, but 17.3 inch
Both of these units are the same price or 100 dollars less and are in my opinion, ten times better for gaming and ability to stay cool while being heavy in battle.

Knowing that top end Systems cannot get more then 25-28FPS playing GW2 in WvW Zergs. What are your expectations on your laptop here?

That will really determine what/how much you can put and get out of your laptop Choice.

HP makes ‘OK’ Laptops. But all of them suffer from heat-death down the road. So I cannot suggest looking at them honesty, unless you are good with laptop repairs on your own, and/or get the extended warranty (add $300 to the base price).

Now, that being said. Avelos.6798 post is pretty dead on when it comes down to laptop Hardware with gaming. But I’m going to add in based on budget here.

AMD APUs are not that bad if you know how to handle them. I would NOT spend more then $450 on an AMD APU Based Notebook from any Manufacturer though. But you can get good performance out of it for that cost. So if your budget is not the greatest, you do have that option.

I run a HP DV6z-6c00, A8-3550MX(Llano) 6620G(APU)+HD7690M. 8GB of ram (1600Mhz), 128G Sandisk SSD, 500G Hybrid HDD, and a 1080P LED.
I got lucky and got that machine 2nd hand on eBay for 350 Shipped last year. I run Gw2 at 1600×900 on Medium Settings, and get 75FPS while in low populated areas, 45FPS in LA on a busy night. and 8-12FPS in heavy WvW Zergs. IMHO worth the 350.

Desktop: 4790k@4.6ghz-1.25v, AMD 295×2, 32GB 1866CL10 RAM, 850Evo 500GB SSD
Laptop: M6600 – 2720QM, AMD HD6970M, 32GB 1600CL9 RAM, Arc100 480GB SSD

Runs just fine on mine, but I did spend a good amount on it. I did a customized Sager Notebook based off their 9150 line last year.

Its a 3rd Gen i7(don’t remember the number) and a nVidia GTX 675m.

Cooling is paramount; I like the sager design (2 rear vents and hitting Fn+1 sends both fans to 100% power).

Considering your laptop has a relabeled GTX 580M, I would expect GW2 to run great on it :P

Alright Chronoz! I hope you’re able to find a similarly priced MSI GT60 or GT70, it’s a pretty robust laptop so far that I’ve seen.

after a bit of looking round i found some similar laptops but im not sure which of the 2 would be the better choice,
http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/notebooks/componentview.asp?partid=19827 is about 1700usd
http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/notebooks/componentview.asp?partid=19830 is slightly more at around 1770
which would be the better option for guildwars?
also my current computer specs to compare are
cpu: intel core 2 duo e6850 3ghz
ram: 4gb ddr2 (4×1gb)
gpu: nvidia geforce 8800 gts
harddrive: 2×250gb

That’s a tough call there. The GX70 MSI has superior graphics power but the GE70 has the superior processor power.

I’d say GE70 for the processor power personally. Guild Wars 2 isn’t too heavy on GPU power and I feel that the GT750M will handle the game fairly well. Also… I found the GT60 on that website. More than double of what it is here… Just, ouch.
If Guild Wars 2 wasn’t CPU bound, I’d take the GX70 for the Radeon HD 8970M.
However if you plan on playing other games than Guild Wars 2 then the GX70 would be a good deal. but out of the two, the GE70 will perform better CPU wise maybe the same GPU wise due to the CPU in it.
