Today i have upgraded my computer to an i5, and it works 10x better for GW2.

I used to have i3 2100 and i could play the game on medium – high settings, but i had lag ( even on lower settings ) in WvW and when i turn around fast in Lions Arch.

So i decided to go for a diffrent CPU, and i wanted to get the i5 3750k but i already have a good GPU GTX 560ti so the integrated CPU graphics were not needed and i ended up with the i5 3350 P its similar to the 3750 but u need a Graphics card.

And it only costed 157 euro..

My setup is now

W7 64 bit
Asus GTX 560 Ti CUII
i5 3350P
8g ram

I can play the game on max settings in every part of the game with 80 FPS in WvW and 35 FPS in Lions Arch, and that for a good price! Thats what i wanted to share with you guys who are maybe thinking of upgrading their computers

Happy gamer now!

This would be very common in terms of computing. I dont want to come off as harsh but yes i3 should never really be done in terms of gaming. It’s more for the generic internet/office users. For current gen CPU’s you would want i5 or higher for sure if your a gamer. Glad you got it upgraded I could only imagine the pain you had trying to play the game on i3 /cringe LOL! I got the I7 for my current CPU built and looooving it

Well i could play any game with my i3 on max settings, that was a reason to not upgrade it, and in PVE zones i could play the game on max settings with a good 40-50 FPS, only in WvW you really need the CPU powers..

Still its not expensive to buy a good i5!

Really? 80 fps in a massive zerg? Is that cpu really that much better compared to an i5 2500k? I only get 20-30 in a huge zerg on max settings.

I havent seen it yet in a massive zerg! Still need to test that out but in group fights im around 80fps yes.

well i use i5 2500 and get up towards 100 fps when doing nothing and with normal action at least a 60-70+fps huge zergs i don’t really have time usually to check my fps, but im rather certain it not below 30 likely quite a bit above that too, since i deffo dont experience any slowdowns in them, so my geuss is it is not your CPU that puts you so low

OP you have a GTX 560Ti and you have 80 fps in most areas on max settings? I got a AMD 7970 and i5 2500K @ 4.5 GHz and I never go above 50-60 fps on max settings :/

Of course it is. You’re looking at quad core vs duo core. You have hyper-threading with the i3, but cpu is really a strain for single thread use. Plus, you get all the extra room in the cache.

My i7 should be on my doorstep in 2-3 days drools

Grats on your new setup.

The game is highly CPU and core count dependent as can be seen in this review

The next step would be getting a solid state drive. Makes load times basically a thing of the past.

Thats because you have turned Vsync / framelimiter on. This means that your graphics card is synchronized to your monitor and will render ONLY those frames which your monitor can actually display. You could deactivate Vsync and the framerate would go up even further, but that would be pointless. All the additional frames get just discarded as your monitor is unable to display more than 60 frames per second. You would just burn power for additional frames which get trashed right away without being used at all.

You would need to buy an 120 or 200 Hz capable monitor first before you can make use of framerates above 60 Hz. This is true for EVERY game.

GOOD LUCK using the computer if your GPU fails – this cpu has no onboard intel GPU.

I would have gone with the i5-3570K. It is one of the best CPUs allround.

What PSU you using?

I have a backup GPU thats why i bought this one that is 30% cheaper then the 3570k..

And my PSU hmm i dunno anymore lol, but it still provides enough power

PS: Had some big zerg fights and i got 25-40 fps.. love to fight vs the zergs now lol!

What gpu do you have? I’ve been wanting a new one but didn’t think it would improve fps in huge zergs.

And what resolution? 1920×1080 I assume?

I play with a I three 2100 and Radeon 7700 at 1366 resolution and the game is almost always 60 frames per second on S PVP maps even when in hot join with the zerg of players. They never dips below 45 frames per second and very rarely does it happen.

For questing and dynamic events with 10 people the I three 2100 is flawless for me. I haven’t tried any big events with a ton of people like the loss shores event (back then I still had my older computer not the new I three that I got last week) and I have not played WW.

Most of my graphics settings are on high

1280×1024 (higest my monitor can support) and a XFX Radeon HD 6950 grafikkort – 2GB

i’m not buying the argument of 80fps in huge zergs. (at least not at 1080p)

I have an i7 2600k at 4.6ghz and cap out at 30 in those zergs ( I actually open settings and check it).

I do pop into the 100’s out of those zergs however and turn on vsync to limit needless thermal stress.

Well looking at your setup I would suggest at least 500W PSU.

What are your ingame graphical settings? AA, vsync, etc.?

Yes all of these options are on, i only have supersample off and its on native, because i dont want to let me my gpu work for a little difference

I have 20-40 fps in big zergs
60-80 fps fighting in groups ( vsync off)
1920×1080 resolution
