loss of sound
Having the same issue here, it’s been like that for some time now and seems to have been introduced together with the “culling” update thingie or whatever they called it. That’s when large groups of players are rendered invisible from your screen because there’s just too many to display and would lagg you out.
basically what im hearing from other people to. a little while ago I was standing in an out post in mt maelstrom, nothing going on and the sound was almost stattaco- on/off on/off. its getting anymore that im without sound more than I have it.
does anybody know if anet is working on problem? or even acknowledged it yet?
This began happening to me after the patch that removed culling in wvw. Also horrendous lag everyday. Sometimes entire areas take forever to completely load in, Textures are missing, I walk on air, or water until something renders under my feet. The collisions are there, just not the textures for a while. Sound seems to be the last to load in.

Same here but even more… I was by the Canach Dungeon with quite a few other players and decided to mine some mithril. Well the lava audio from my pick “took the day off” and the pick was quiet as a mouse.
The bad audio and static in crowded areas is becoming progressively worse. Just hoping daily I see the patch download that fixes all of it.

played for several hours last nite, used the timer in my cel to try & keep track od how much time sound was down overall. ended up being approx. 54%. I say approx. cause there was a few I foprgot to hit it, but that is still a good approximation.
sound cutoff tends to happen more whne big events are going on but not always-went through an entire jormag with no loss the other day. and it does happen in low pop zones with me standing doing nothing.
I have tried everything I can think of and s few suggestions others came up with. nothing works. as I stated before seems to effect quite a few people to mostly lesser degrees and probably doesn’t effect the majority at all.
it isn’t on board sound/sound card dependent but is absolutely tied into gw2. and is getting worse.
the prob may be tied into other issues to as I have seen/heard quite a few complaints about sound going out then various crashes occurring. may be related, don’t know.
bottom line- it would be nice to know if there is a fix, or if there is going to be one. I have not seen/heard anet acknowledge this particular problem. I have avery nice sound sytem hooked up t othis & I enjoy being immersed in the game, which is hard to do with flickering/no sound. more importantly that are a lot of sound cues in the game that give u warning to something nasty coming at you.
anyway, as before- any/all help appreciated.
so nobody has been able to/knows how to fix this issue? assuming that there is a ‘fix’.
I guess if somebody had the problem and fixed it they probably wouldn’t come back in here checking on it.
Try this:
1. Go to your sound device properties (Speakers in my case):
Right-click the speaker icon near the clock and then click ‘Playback devices’ to get there. Click ‘Properties’ and then click the ‘Advanced’ tab.
2. Un-check the following two boxes, then click ‘Apply’:
“Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device”
“Give exclusive mode applications priority”
Don’t know if that will help, but those settings can cause sound problems in some programs.
I have the same problem, sound effects and music loading times are incredibly long, how to solve this?? I posted again on this forum but nobody answered

Thanks for this tip. It was the solution to my sound problems.
that ‘tip’ is doing the job ty!
! hopefully anet monitors and chks on some of these posts-should be something they can fix without us jumping thru hoops/
The tip didn’t solve my problem, it still takes forever to load sound effects and music and they always happen too late, unless I’m alone against few enemies, maybe in instanced stories (where nothing really big happens).
During group event bosses, the dragon’s shouts appear after 20 or more seconds or never appear.
