Anyone running nVidia 3D setup? I have one but it’s not hooked up since my primary monitor is used for Graphic design and my secondary is a Wacom Cintiq… I am wondering if it’s worth hooking up for the 3D.

My main concerns are how well it looks but how well it runs, should I expect half the frame rates?

Well.

Starting form that everyones system is different and those ppl are using different video cards etc. Results Your asking for may be really different.

Someone can tell You he noticed no FPS drop ( while his using a gtx 690 Oc ) and someone can tell You his dps was cut in half ( while using lets say old gtx 470 or 560 ).

The best way to test it out is to try it for Yourself. it won’t take You a lot of time and Youll be certain and 100% sure what result in FPS You will get

And this is very dependant on Your system.
While having lets say i3 + gtx 560 You will/would notice maybe some fps Drop tho while having i7 + gtx 660ti you could notice noone. it’s hard to say.

Your frame rate will be cut in half simply because of how 3D works, so it’s only really recommended if you can run it stable at high frame rates, meaning above 60, or better yet, above 120.

While I can’t play now, because of constant crashes due to repeatedly corrupted files. When I was able to play, and played in 3D mode, the biggest difference I noticed was my mouse moved slower through the screen. So that would affect someone’s damage output a lot if you use a heavy ground targetting build such as a staff Necromancer. It’s pretty much why I quit playing in 3D mode. The game looked very nice once you got the lighting turned up to not be so dark. But the draggy mouse curser and awkward front screen to back screen mouse interaction became too bothersome for me. I’d suggest trying it out and see how it works for you.

My system is as follows:

I play in 3D mode, Im not sure what everyone else is getting in terms of FPS as everyones got different graphic cards.

  • In general it should be half the amount of FPS you get normally, but in my case i get exactly the same amount of FPS in 3D as i get playing normally.
  • From level 1- 80 in 3D i have noticed cutscenes are not entirely perfect, im guessing shadows are rendered in correctly & some very rare graphic anomalies on the 310.90 eg tree flashing white. which you even get without 3D not sure if its the application or the driver there.
  • The game itself Is Awesome in 3D, if your computer can push out a consistant amount of frames. I would rate it 8/10
(Batman Arkham city is probably the best ive seen in 3D)
But from my experience all 3rd persons are the best in 3D
  • Mouse interaction , I would say is only affected when you play with your UI, Menu but ground control, clicking on mobs is fine.
  • As long as you play with depth & convergence and tweak it this game looks great.

I run all my games in 3D or I don’t play them.

GW2 looks almost perfect in 3D. There are a few minor issues which some have been addressed with a “helixmod” file that replaces some of the shaders. There are still a few shadows issues while inside, but otherwise this title provides some of the best 3D experience that can be had in a modern video game.

I’m able to maintain 60FPS under most conditions and outside of the ‘wintersday event’ have never really noticed any FPS game play issues.

How well it performs on your system depends highly on your system and what resolution your running at.

If you can run in 3D, I’d highly recommend it.

My system spec’s are in my signature.

“I was playing Farmville and a kitten MMO GW2 broke out of it…”
I cut my gaming teeth on Adventure&ZorkI,II,III.

Thanks for the info guys. Yes generally with 3D you get half the FPS but since GW2 coding seems to be so CPU dependent I was hoping that it was not the case. Also reducing quality down to “crap level” I don’t gain much.

I’m only getting 30-50 FPS after a lot of fuss and hooking my 3D system up is actually a pain since im already running 2 monitors which are not 120hz.

I have a i7-920 @ 3.8ghz and a GTX 275 and 6gb ram. It’s a bit dated but handles most any other game maxed out at 60FPS. GW2 really strains this system.

I’ll likely hook it up just to experience it, im already blown away how good this game looks in “2D”.
