Q:

I got GW2 a couple of days ago and I can’t say that I’ve got many complaints so far.

The one and only “major” problem is the input lag. Mostly it’s a non-issue but for some puzzles (platform jumping) it’s really annoying. So far I’ve noticed up to a 1/4 of a second between the time I hit [SPACE] and the actual jump on the screen. It’s not instantaneous. It’s not tight. In general I find the camera movement, key input, etc somewhat lagging. But, as I said, it’s not an issue when you’re moving around the world, but it is very noticeable.

Now, as much as I can I will refrain from using beta drivers of any sort, unless I know it really fix issues I’m having. I’ve read the last couple of beta readmes and there’s barely a mention of GW2. I’m sure there are some improvements, but there’s nothing specific.

So, the question is: has anyone noticed if switching to beta drivers will improve or fix the input lag?

I like my games to be responsive, not molassy.

Thanks.

Doesnt sound like local system lag aka low video/cpu performance. If you press a skill or space to jump and have a second delay then it sounds like network lag/high ping, proper lag.

I know you’re trying to help, but please don’t put words into my mouth. I never said there was a delay when using skills. When I click an ability, it triggers immediately. This is only applicable to camera movement, slightly sluggish, or when using movement keys. Jumping is the most obviously noticed.

Still, there is the possibility of network lag. Is there a way to get whatever latency we have to the server?

This problem only occurs when framerate dips for me, and becomes QUITE pronounced when fps is 20 or below, effectively making the game unplayable at otherwise playable framerates.

I’m not sure if it only occurs on some systems, but for reference I’m using a GTX295 using the latest beta drivers. The issue isn’t SLI-related, as it occurs regardless of whether I’m using one or both of my GPUs.

try messing with your resolution. I went from 1920×1080 to 1360×768 and that fixed it for me..

Shader and shadow settings are the killer options to max out. Same for every game out there.

This issue occurs regardless of video settings, on a system that can generally run anything else out there without problems.

And again, the problem isn’t low framerates. GW2 is a poorly optimized game, but that’s irrelevant to this discussion; the issue is that at low framerates the input delay becomes staggering.

No other games I can think of have this issue, and it really is game-breaking for those affected.
