need help with graphical tearing.
Does the tearing persist when you use your monitors default resolution and refresh rate?
Also, have you tried any ‘windowed full screen modes’ with vertical sync on and off to see if that has any beneficial effects?
Please update to the latest drivers for your specific graphics processor.
Vertical Sync stops screen tearing.
However as many people seem to miss-use the word ‘tearing’ and instead mean ‘artifacts’ it would be benefical to attach a screenshot of ur issue to make sure we are all talking about the same problem.

ok i have tried it with windowed full screen, iv turned vertical sync on and off and iv tried changing the full screen resolution but still had the tears/artifacts(or what ever there called :P). also apparently my drivers are up to date.
also to be honest I don’t know the exact term for this so sorry if this was the wrong terming for this problem.
iv also attached a screenshot.
thanks.

woah. thats a new one.
Ok thats artifacts.
its a general term for any kind of graphical glitches or bugs that are not necessarily part of the game.
Hard to tell but the ‘stain/artifact’ on that image, Does it apear and stick on screen till another one appers??. It reminds me of what happens when u have incorrect Ambient Occulsion being used, it can create darker areas of shadowed textures for a deeper image but when using the wrong type it can ‘stick’ on the screen and overlay on the image beneeth as the image moves, untill it refreshes and happens again.
…..hard to explain.
Check ur Ambient Occulsion settings (AO) in Catalyst Control Center. Turn them off / set to application controlled.

I cant seem to find those settings in my catalyst control center, iv looked through the whole thing and there’s nothing that says Ambient Occulsion.
Iv added a screenshot of my catalyst control center, to show you what version mine is.

follow the support teams’s instructions in this link ( https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Are-your-drivers-up-to-date/first#post3965
) how to easily update the drivers ( cpu and vga ) .
also to install the game profiles correct many issues in amd/ati vga ( after the update of the vga driver )
Ok i havnt used a AMD grpahics card for many years so i dont know my way aroudn the CCC.
Check under Display option and Display manager see if u can find it in there.

All my drivers are up to date. and Ambient Occlusion is no where to be seen on my CCC.
the updates I have done have made no difference.
I really don’t know what to do.

Hmm ok nevermind, seems AMD dont have AO option in their CCC.

could there be any other way of fixing it?
I don’t want to come to the conclusion of having to buy a new pc or upgrade parts of my current one as i cant afford it.

Hi GB Panther – First of all, unfortunately your graphics card does not meet the minimum requirements. That aside, you had mentioned that you have the latest drivers for this card. The downside here is that those drivers are from 2010, long before the release of Guild Wars 2. Due to this, it is unlikely that this issue will be resolved unless you upgrade your graphics card. If anything I would suggest a clean installation of your video card drivers, but beyond this there isn’t much else we can suggest.
Hmm although there may be way to fix it(which i dont know atm), i have to conceed that even if there wasnt a graphical problem. There would highley likely be a performance one.
GW2 struggles to have good FPS in LA and WvW even on the best modern CPU,s ur running an almost ancient Pentium 4 Dual Core.
Its not normal i overlook system specs, i mean i did look at the DXDiag but for some reason completly overlooked the age of ur system. I mean ur GPU only has 256mb of VRAm ..thats crazy nowerdays.
My advice would be, and this would be the same even if u didnt have this problem, buy new rig. You can forget upgrading, u just need a whole new rig.

your pc is extremely old for the game .
but ,the last version of your vga’s drivers is some days newer than yours in dxdiag log file.
you are not loosing something if you try them ……
you can find them in this amd link : http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_xp.aspx
but if the new drivers can not solve the issue since you have Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.00GHz (2 CPUs) and from this link : http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/guild-wars-2-performance-benchmark,3268-7.html we can see a Pentium dual core can have good fps , before buy a new pc try to find a better vga to try the game ( ati or nvidia no matters , but if you find nvidia you must reinstall windows )
also you have 3 gb ram that is enough for the game

well, heres something iv learned, never buy cheap so-called gaming computers off ebay.
hmm, i doubt it but would the game run on my laptop?
iv attached the dxdiag file for my laptop.

ok, thanks
. looks like i need a new pc then

The GW2 engine is older than 2010.
