Guild Wars 2

Been reading up on all the technical issues on this forum, especially about how the newer and high-end PCs and laptops running DX11 are having issues with GW2 and DX9.

Well, my new laptop gets delivered tomorrow. Here are the specs:

SSD CACHE DRIVE 20GB INTEL® 313 mSATA SSD – SLC CACHE DRIVE- SPEED UP HDD

I’ve so been looking forward to playing this game for months now, but can’t help feeling super paranoid about performance issues based on what I’ve read here so far. Should I be worried? Are there any preventive actions I should take before installing GW2? Or should I just load the game and see what happens?

Load up the game and see what happens. It’s not all DX11 machines that are having problems, only some. As for preventative measures, drivers are the only things I can think of.

If you already bought the game, and the laptop then just install it as usual.

Indeed install as usual. Dont get to carried away with the ingame graphics settings. Remember that although u have bnought an expensive high end Laptop its still a notch down from Desktops so dont be to ambitous.
Be prepaired for BIG WvW battles to still have low fps.

In other MMOs I’ve always been PvE and exploration, so I think I should be ok.

Ah PvE ..Yea in that case u should be fine.

I’ll point out some graphics settings u should avoid using. Even top end desktop users tend to avoid them in this game atm also due ot the massive performance hits and/or bugs related to them.

Reflections: All
Set it to Terrain and Sky or Off.

Shadows: Ultra
Set to ether High/medium/Low/off

Rendering: SuperSample
Set to Native

There’s a lot of people with all manner of hardware having problems, and many gamers have a video card at least new enough to be a DX11 card. Correlation is not causation; there is no systemic problem with DX11-capable cards running this game. The last DX9-only cards would barely even meet this game’s minimum specs.

You should be able to run it with everything maxed, probably even Supersampling (if you can’t, no laptop can), but just turn down the settings if it runs too slow. You shouldn’t have any “issues.” Be aware that WvW combat runs horribly for just about all configurations, so don’t panic if you dip into the 30’s or so when it gets hectic. That’s the game, not your system.

Congrats on the spectacularly expensive laptop. Relax and enjoy it :P
