“your guild wars 2 account has been terminated for modifying or tampering”
I dont really know where to start, I’ve can only say I dont know why this has happened or what I apparently I’ve done? I haven’t played this game for well over a year due to not having a real pc since the one I originally installed this game on suffered a HDD issue and I couldnt get the funds to replace it until a few months ago and this game completely slipped my mind.
Why has my account been permanently banned? can someone look into it? I made a support ticket but no one has answered.

So is this an e-mail or a message you got starting up the game? If it’s an e-mail it’s likely a phishing attempt.

It took me a while to get my password back, I wasnt sure what it was entirely so I’m not gonna claim it was a hack or phish, but the notification came up after installing the game itself and trying to log in.

It sounds as though your account (and email) has been compromised in your absence. You will need to secure your computer and change all passwords. Also, you will need to contact CS to regain control of your account. You may be eligible for an Account Restoration if the compromise took place after Dec. 1, 2012.

Ive regained my account access with a password recovery, but I dont even know if it was actually compromised, Theres no way on my end to check if it was and I dont even know when this termination was carried out.
Still waiting for a support ticket response, but in the meantime is there anything else I can do to speed this process up or even get details as to why, when or who did this? If anything even has been done?
I genuinely cant say theres a plausible reason (on my end) since Ive only played this game for a total of several weeks upon release then stopped.

You should review your computers security.
1: check for malware and virusses, specially keyloggers. Use a free tool, other then your regular virusscanner (e.g. if you use norton, use a tool from mccaffee).
2: change the password to your emailaccount associated with your gw2 account. Make sure the password is different (and not even alike) from your GW2 password.
Thats all you can do while waiting for support.

Thanks for the responses guys, much appreciated.
This pc is alone, few months old. The passwords been reset anyway since I couldnt remember it from over 1-2 years ago. So I guess this is just a waiting game, fingers crossed this can reset my account.

the age of a pc doesn’t matter to how secure it is. Besides access to your account, an account hacker also needs to have access to your email. Often this is done through a keylogger (a program that registers everything you type and sents a copy to the hacker).

I understand that, I just meant with my comp being so new I highly doubt I have a keylogger (anymore) since I’ve been so protective over it since my HDD bust. I dont even torrent anymore.
Is there any part of my account I can view a record of why I was terminated?
Or even see if my account was accessed by someone other than myself?
[edit]
And yes I do have some malware protection (malwarebytes/Spybot) that regularly check just in case.

No you can’t see anymore reason then allready given (modifying or tampering with the game client). The first reason is that Anet doesn’t have to share it. They can close accounts whenever they feel it is appropiate (it is a matter of trust they don’t do it without good reasons). The second is that to protect the game and the community from the badguys they have secret detection methods. They want them to remain secret.
For example, you are a bad person and made 10 illegal modifications to the gameclient. If Anet tells your they detected 3 modifications, this bad person would know the other 7 are currently undetectable.
Given your story I’m certain you didn’t did this yourself but a hacker. When anet handled your ticket I’m pretty positive everything will be allright.

Thats fair enough, I just wanted to get whatever I needed to prove Ive in no way even logged into this game for over a year.

As others have mentioned, it really sounds as if your account may have been compromised during your absence. These things take a bit of time to investigate, but an agent will review the game logs and we’ll be happy to help you with this through the ticket. Things are busy, but generally you would hear about this within the next day or two.

Thats awesome news, I was worried mostly about it being a ‘permanent’ thing since I only played it for 2 weeks but I’m happy to know its repairable.
I made a ticket regarding this 1-2 days ago now so im just waiting for a reply and checking the forums.

The term permanent is indeed a scary term. But your ‘account’ has been accused of doing pretty bad things. As soon as you can prove that you where not in control of your account I’m pretty sure that support will be less scary

Indeed, but I looked online and I read that some people had their accounts restored, i’m not sure how it works but if I can get it back it’ll be a blessing. Surely they could just match my IP no and my IP from 2012 and see theyre the same but if my account was compromised inbetween it’d show up, right?

Something like it ye.
Sorry to keep you a bit in the dark. When fighting hackers, botters and other evil people, it is important for support to keep the methods they use in the dark. For example, if the method you mention is the only method support uses, a skilled hacker could easily ‘spoof’ his IP. Luckely, there are a few dozen of methods and the hackers don’t know what methods Arenanet is using.

Once this gets resolved (hopefully sooner than later) am I looking at a complete account wipe? Could they separate any progress made from a compromised account from the original? I dont mind having my account reset as long as I get it back.

hmmm, maybe…
There is an account restoration system in place. This system takes ‘snapshots’ off your account and let support restore an account to that moment in time. However , this system was implemented way over a year ago, in december 2012 to be precise. So it depends when you stopped playing. You use the same term (way over a year ago) so it might be that there are no snapshots off your account from before it got corupted.
If there is, then we are not there yet.
The first step is to verify your account has been breached. a restoration is only given when a third party takes control over your account without you realizing and knowing it. You currently in the process of it.
The second step is making sure your account doesn’t get breached again. In essence this would mean finding out how they did it, but in your case that might be hard. following basic safety rules (two way authentication and a good virusscanner/firewall).
The third step is getting you back into the game.
When all that is realized and you are eligable for a restoration you can get one. Keep in mind that you only get a restoration once in a lifetime. So if you get hacked a second time it is though luck.
My advise is to let this be for the moment and wait till support answers you. if you got back in and have seen the current state of your account you can update the original ticket with a request for restoration.

I think it was within the month of the games release possibly. Certainly not over 2 months after. Just waiting for a response for my ticket is all, while finding out off the forum what to expect and such. Thanks for the help though, much appreciated.
