As the titles says I am upgrading my PC very soon and am just wondering how well it will be able to run my favorite game atm, Guild Wars 2. If you guys think I could adjust something in the build feel free to suggest

A lot will tell you to go Intel i5 or i7 over an FX-8350. In most other games it should be fine but here the extra cores in the FX don’t help as GW2 is currently limited to around 3 cores worth of work. However if they ever rework the engine to do a better job scaling to number of available cores, that’s another story.

R9 290 is fast and cheap (compared to Titan, GTX 780Ti) but is very, very temp sensitive to achieve it’s performance. I would wait until some of the manufacturers slap a better cooler on it than the default blower.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

if I got an aftermarket cooler and paired it with the r9 290 do you think it would be ok? As for the processor, I think the 8350 should be fine as I don’t only play GW2 and I may start doing some videos which I hear the 8350 is really good for. As a side note, for anyone who owns the 8350 some FPS numbers would be great

Ok so with that kind of budget. (do let u know if u have any more leway) i would sugest going DOWN on ur GPU, so u can get a Intel rig.

As much as GW2 makes it clear that Intel CPUs are stronger, and yes in most games it doesnt matter, the fact still remains that for gaming in general the single thread performance of intel CPU’s is best. So do try get a I5 or i7.

Go for a 280x or GTX 770, the 290 and 290x would be a good choice if u were to water cool them, but going air is just ..well they run at 95c ..thats hot, and they cant OC on air. The price u save between a r290 and a GTX 780 or 780ti u would spend on a water cooler for it so in the end the price is simular. Atleast that my OPINION.

If ur going above 1080p resolution, get a R9 280×. If not then the GTX 770 is good.
You dont need a 800w PSU, 600W is plenty.

I do have some leway within my budget, I can go up to about 1500$ range but don’t really want to go that high. Also I guess the reason I’m so hesitant about intel cpu’s is because my past two laptops have been i5’s and they both died after about a year. So I guess I’m just naturally hesitant about intel stuff now(probably a very stupid reason).
Note: This is my very first build
EDIT: I don’t know if this makes a difference but I plan to be running dual monitors as well

Ok well Intel laptop CPU’s are a totaly different beast. They can get very hot and it would be the fault of the laptop design. Desktop CPU’s can last a loooong time.
Infact i cant recall a CPU ever breaking on me.

Bassicaly, take that link i posted, and upgrade the GPU to a 780, that will bring u up to ~$1500 and give u a massive performance boost. The 290 would be cheaper, but as i said, i personal would only get it if i had a water cooled system to keep its temps down. And the 780 has droped in price now anyway.

BTW , if u already has a OS installed on a old rig or laptop, u shold be able to transfer it over. You shouldnt need to buy Windows 8 tbh, W7 is just as godo and more mature so less bugs, make sure u got a 64bit version. If u have the 32bit version of W7 installed on a old rig, just use the same product code/key and download the 64 bit version. that’ll save u $100.
