should it alarm me that my user name has changed out of the blue?

I will admit that my old name could have been somewhat questionable, It was Jebediah Ubershiet. I can still log into my account, and i was able to change my password and log in with the new one.

I didn’t get an email notifacation when I changed my password, although the change has taken effect. And I also got no notifacation that my name would be chaged/ was in violation. I just logged in and it was what it is.

It’s actually kind of funny. all the letters from my origional name are there..it’s just been “Rehashed”

Your name got flagged for offending someone – probably the last part was seen as an attempt to get around the language filter – and was changed by Arenanet staff. There probably isn’t anything you can do about it. As for the new name, the ones who do this tend to have a pretty good sense of humor.

I’m not worried about doing anything about it. If it was flagged, and that’s why it was changed I can understand and accept that. I can even appreciate it. I was more wondering if I should be worried about my account being compromised. I’m also left with a character on the account that also has that name, so if in fact it was flagged, I’m guessing I better be pro active in changing that characters name. I really don’t want a forced holliday from the game

The name was changed because of its questionable nature. Thanks for being so understanding about that.

In most situations, the player knows that the name was offensive or at least questionable, so the change isn’t alarming. You did jus fine to post here, and of course if you had submitted a support ticket, a team member could have told you the same thing.

I’ll discuss this is an all-team meeting and see if we want to amend the process at all. (One reason against notification is that it usually erupts into a “That’s not offensive!” argument, where your reasonable approach is refreshingly different!

TL;DR — you’re ok. No account compromise here!

Thanks Gaile. It’s actually kind of funny. I had to change Jebidiah to Jebediah in order to beat the filter, But the second name is what it always was so I figured it might be accepted for the gibberish it really is. I’ve always laughed that the perfectly legitimate first name got flagged while the questionable surname got a pass.

This just leaves me with the issue of what to do about the ele on the account named Jebediah Uber*kitten*. My display name is fine as is, but I’d rather not have it as a name for my main. Will a support ticket allow me to change it? and do I risk a suspension if I play him before it’s changed?

Admittedly this is from another NCSoft game, but in City of Heroes if you submitted a ticket on yourself and supplied some suggested/preferred names, they’d help you out.

If you do this, I’d recommend the support.guildwars2.com (Create a support account if you have not already, NC keeps it separate in case of lockout/hacking) since the “Ask a Question” feature lets you actually TALK to them vs the in-game reporting.
