I believe you are talking about your display name.

Anet will only change display names in the event someone’s personal privacy is exposed such as using their real name or if the display name is offensive/violates the naming policy.

I don’t think your request is going to happen based on the information provided by the link in my first post. The fact that you are unhappy with your name because it was based on an account you shared with someone else, which is against the rules, doesn’t help.

I doubt you’ll get it changed. You haven’t used your real name or email address (I assume, since there’s no “gmail” or anything in there), so you’re stuck with it.
Seriously, is the name that bad? If you are getting harrassed because people think you’re a woman and get rude, that’s not your name’s fault, it’s the twits at the other end of the line. I don’t think that’s reason enough to change your display name; if anything, you’ll have to report them and live with your fabulous name

Edit: Yeah, also, what JustTrogdor said. I’d avoid telling customer support that you used to share the account. They’d have to ban you for going against ToS if you went to them with that particular argument.

sharing an account with a sig other u were living with i find hard to be against the tos…. im sure many acts are shared amongst couples… if it cant be changed then so be it.. but jeebus why is it such a difficult task..

The TOS says one user per account. The ONLY exception is if you live in Germany. And I forget the exact exception there since I’m not living in Germany.

By openly admitting to breaking the TOS, I think you put your account at risk for termination. The display name clearly shows it was for your ex, but now you’re using it. That means you’re using an account that’s “not yours”.

The way I believe it works is that even if you paid for the account, the moment you give it to someone else, and they register it, it’s theirs. But regardless, the following is what breaks the TOS:

This means it’s possible for two people to make a legit claim to this account. Since Anet won’t take sides, they’ll simply defer in helping.

Correct. The one who registers the account owns the account.

And if your ex registered it under her email she owns it.

Unless you have court documents that legally gave you the account.

And if your ex ever played the account then you’ve broken the TOS. Because one user per account. And you can’t give it or trade it away.

Regardless of how the ToS was breached…by sharing an account, or taking someone else’s account…the fact remains: Someone chose that name as a Display Name (it is called that as a clue that it will be displayed everywhere), and will not be changed per policy at this time.

Perhaps, some time in the distant future, you will have the opportunity to change it. In the meantime, you can use the existing account with that Display Name, or purchase another account and choose more wisely.

Technically, letting your wife have even one character on this account to play was a violation of the TOS. Which you haven’t seemed to acknowledge at all.

We’re not going on about the display name, because that was already answered. Unless it’s the actual email address you use to sign in or your real name, there is currently no changing of the display name.

They’ve made it clear in their ToS that they will only change the name if it violates the naming policy or it reveals personal information. And if it violates the naming policy they anagram the original name into something silly, no input from the account owner.

wow.. its my gmail email acct. its my gw1 acct, its my gw2 acct, she played a character on the acct.. the display name wasnt chosen, it was a kitten gw1 character needed to link gw1 and gw2 for the stupid HoM.. if i had known i would have used a diff character than the black sun. why the kitten is it displayed in game.,… everyone just wants to copy paste TOS breach and buy a diff acct and use that, i shouldnt have to buy a new acct, when i have yrs and thousands of achev points wrapped up in this MY acct…..

You keep saying that linking GW and GW2 accounts required you to choose a character name to set as your Display Name. I was asked to choose a Display Name when registering my GW2 account. Nothing to do with linking it to my GW accounts. I certainly did not link my accounts in such a manner, nor have I ever seen anyone else post about such a procedure.

Your accounts must have been bugged severely, and, as such, perhaps you should take it up with TCS. Best of luck.

No, he’s coming up with lies to get around it. Haven’t you noticed how the story keeps changing to get his way to change it. First it was his girlfriend who set up the name, since they were sharing the account, now it’s from HIS GW1 account and it forced him to pick a name (which is untrue). And now it’s even his email address, which isn’t true since it’s not blahblahblah@***.com. He’s just one of those people who lie to get their way.
