No person here can help you. People probably post here with opinion and blah blah blah because they like to talk but that will not matter either. Only support can help you. If you think change is wrong make support ticket. Link at top of page.

I’ll just leave a copy of the naming policy here.
We do not permit names that:
Have offensive racial, ethnic, national, or cultural connotations
Include hate speech or bigoted slurs
Reference sexual acts or real life violence
Are pornographic
Make inappropriate references to human anatomy or bodily functions
Reference illegal drugs or activities
Reference religious or historical figures
Reference real-life people
Reference names of copyrighted or trademarked characters, materials, or products
Use misspellings or alternative spellings of names that violate any of the above rules
Hopefully the bold part answers your questions.

presumably that means in a bullying context, if you cant reference trademarks or historical figures than most every name i have ever used would have been removed, and every name im looking at in game right now. (goodbye batman) no i was singled out
Again you have to talk to support. Argue here about this will not fix.
They don’t have an automatic detecting system for name violations like this.
If you had it for three years that only means that until now nobody bothered to report it.

It means in any context as Anet sees fit. Some someone reports a name, and it actually goes against this naming policy, Anet can choose to force a name change.

a policy is not something you can choose to enforce or not you must always enforce it or its not a policy
HMM, I see copyrighted character names are in the policy too. OPs Forum name next to change?

Semantics.
The policy is to remove names if they are reported and are determined to be against the naming rules. Enforced every time. Satisfied?

Report it. See what happens.
One Nude Dukem coming up
The referencing real life people is not strictly enforced. I’ve been running my guardian who is named after a former conservative Republican congresswoman who is alive and well. There is nothing disrespectful about naming characters after real life people.
But, I will confess, if after playing that character for months and they all of a sudden demand I change it, I’m not paying to change the name. They better let me do it for free. They didn’t stop me from making the character with that name.
I see no reason not to allow him to name his character after Donald Trump.

If arnea net force name change you do not have to pay for name change contract. Just have to change. Not sure I would report myself of have name that might be against rule on official forum though.

Chances are you were in sPVP and got trolled for some QQ time. It happened to a buddy of mine who too had a name for about 2.5 years before he was forced to change it.
Anet does not monitor names that passes the creation filters. Its up the players to report them, and then Anet will follow up. and thats exactly what happened.
Your name IS in violation of the naming policy. So in reality, it was just a matter of time.

It’s more likely that the person your character has been named after isn’t a widely known congresswoman or that it hasn’t been reported.
