20 FPS only, is it my computer?
You already know the answer to your question.
So all you can do is wait endlessly like the rest of us.
Oh so it is GW2 related? thanks for confirming <3
I run intel i5-2400, 8gb ram, HD 6870. I have a constant 60 fps and at times it may drop to 45-50 briefly or in large battles. So, I would think it isn’t your computer.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
You’re cpu is holding your back.Playing with 3 monitors at the same time ? try to set it to one screen and see how it fares.just because people say its related to gw2, ( wich it also kinda is ) Doesnt mean that if they will ever optimize this game any better, your fps will shoot up to 50 – 100.You will continue to be playing with an fps of around what you have right now with your current hardware.
Btw: Final Fantasy XIV ULTRA,no lag ? I hiiiiiighly doubt this,i also play FFXIV still once in a while,Far more intensive then Gw2 to be honest.
I know FFXIV is hardcore but seriously, I got it all on max
I ordered a new computer anyways as this one will become a server (money has to roll right lol).
New one will be: Newest AMD FX Octa-core, This togather with 16GB of DDR3 2133MHz memory so im sure that would be sufficient IF it was my computer.
Anyways, thanks so much for your answers guys.

Get ready for exactly the same fps… If gaming is your thing, then you’ll need a Quad i5/7 Intel, end of story. Amd totally blow, especially faildozers. No, I’m not an Intel fanboi.. I really do like Amd, but not at this point in time, they just don’t compete.
GTX 6GB Titan@1160Mhz

Honestly you’re going to get the same results with that AMD FX CPU. And the FX line is a flop anyways.
I run on an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T with 4GB ram and a 560Ti and I don’t have FPS issues like you do but I’m using older Nvidia drivers, I also have a second PC that also runs a X4 945 with a HD5770 and FPS isn’t as bad as your’s although I had to tone down the settings. It seems to vary between users.

Cancel that order and get an i5 at least. AMD processors are garbage for gaming and you’ll pretty much get exactly the same performance, if not worse on that FX chip.

Fx 8120@ 4.8,runs this game great,in fact better then most people with an i5 or even i6 i see here on the forum. In all reality you shouldnt just pass info youve read somewhere else, judge from real life experience.

I have years of experience, thanks.
And I can tell you from that experience that no, they don’t. AMD chips are terrible at gaming, as demonstrated in practically any benchmark for any game. This is also demonstrated by the ridiculously high overclock that you’ve put on the CPU in order for the game to run well.
Besides that, I have no idea what an “i6” processor is.
No clue why u people say AMD is garbage but…
I can get FFXIV running on a AMD Phenom with all config on ultra, while most people need an i7 which costs twice the money.
So if I can get an AMD running with 50% of the capacity (not literally but u know…) of an Intel i7 which costs twice the price, then I dont know how you guys your “experience” and “knowledge” is… I think you need to study a little more and -or get more into hardware.
I know that when you benchmark a (for example) Phenom II Quad Core against an i7, that the i7 statisticly will blow away the AMD but…
I have made hundred of computers for customers. I set two computer right next to each other. One was a Intel i7, the other a Phenom which in costs was around 30-40% cheaper in cost.
I started different games like:
- Call of Duty Modern Warfare
- Battlefield 3
- Final Fantasy XIV
Both PC’s ran it with all settings on ultra high. CoD no difference, same for BF. In FFXIV there was a small difference when you get to crowded area’s i.e. 100+ people.
But then again, the difference was so small, it is not worth the 30-40% more costs if you ask me.
I dont mean it offencive that I say “your wrong” but I have seen it with my own eyes. You shouldnt beleve everything that magazine’s say, or what people on forums write.
When building a computer (i work with Intel to) you can calculate a lot of stuff into the final build.
CPU core, chipset, bus, brand et cetera. I know that a AM3 CPU fits on a AM2/AM3 mainboard, but that does not mean that it is optimal! with a little bit of research you can get the same power, as an (for example) i7 configuration for 30-40% less costs.
Anyways, this is an endless argument that people will always try to put at their foot. Some people prefer Intel, some prefer AMD. That’s how it is, and it always will be.
Anyways, like I tought, it aint my computer, but still I am getting a new one just because I want one lol
Thanks for your replies everyone, wonderfull to see that the GW2 community is so active, compared to a lot of other ‘communities’.
People are saying that because they are garbage mate.

There you go, read that. That core you’re are getting is below any high end i7 900 series.
Basically the intel cores take a huge dump on the AMD counterparts.
The performance per core on that CPU is absolutely terrible. If you like I can link you many more tech websites that have tested them endlessly.
Sandybridge or Ivybridge and you are laughing.
But it’s up to you, just trying to help.

Was a typo, meant 2600k,or i7 even. What dont you understand from what im saying btw ? I own a fx 8120 and never seen my fps drop below 26 in heavy wvwvw fights, settings maxed, that alone should be enough for you to recognize the fact how wrong you are.The game runs well on a lower oc aswell,im just crazy for ocing and trying to get the highest possible, hence i took this cpu since they are known for getting insane ly high oc’s.
@Groundzero,exactly,but people ajust cant get it into their thick skulls.I dont really care though,i know what this cpu is capable off,and pretty much laugh at them for making such statements.

AMD may not be “garbage” but the Bulldozer or FX line that you plan on ordering is pure kitten my friend. Theres a reason its pathetically cheap, My friend has the 8150 at 5.0ghz with a 7970 and barely manages 55fps doing hearts and POI’s with major dips. My I7-3820 at 4.3ghz runs a constant 60 with vsync on and never dips unless its in WvW in a mass battle. And thats only because the game only uses 40% of my CPU
Clock for clock intel has been whooping AMD’skitten since the C2D, Im no fanboy I had AMD up until the C2D’s came out but that was when AMD was better at gaming… Some of these people come off as kitten with their fanboyism but it is true you should cancel that FX if you plan serious gaming and or ANYTHING besides it. Bulldozer was an epic letdown dont waste your hard earned money.
I forgot to mention I only have a 6770 until tuesday when my new GTX comes.. so yea
You also have unreal expectations of your 6970 at the insanely high resolution your trying to push with it. I dont know how you claim to max any game besides crap of duty at that res with a decent framerate of 40+… Def need crossfire or SLI for high end options

every system is different buddy, just because your friends cpu has such a low fps doesnt mean others have the same.Mobo, ram, gpu, psu, all important parts its not about the cpu alone.I get almost double the fps your friend has btw.
AMD’s are not particularly garbage, but like the above poster said, the FX line is, the Phenom II (X2/4/6) line is *cough*phenominal, I’ve built PC’s since the mid 90’s and I’ve done a handful with Phenom II’s and they’ve all behaved well (as well as the revised Athlon x64’s), the original Phenom (not II) were pretty bad, so I bet AMD will release an FX II or something like that. I remember almost 10 years ago AMD released MP chips which were god awful, I threw away the MP mobo with the dual MP CPU’s a month after getting it.
I have considered getting an i5 for my next system.

I would guess the fact you have 3 monitors connected would be your problem, are you running the game in eyfinty mode? if you are try disableing it thats alot of work for a single 6970 to do.
If you are only running the game on one monitor make sure that the one the game is on is set up as your primary monitor.
Amd chips do the job just fine, just disable core parking and you will get much better performance ingame as Amd chips are meant to utilize all of it’s cores at once instead of one here or one there. Also if you run linux Amd chips will poo on an intel as they are meant for floating point calculations (you know that little chip called the Cell in the ps3? That is how the FX series is setup in a way). Just windows iskitten and is solely tested on intel platforms until release then slowly updated to have Amd chips run better.
Tomshardware was and always has been bias’d against Amd processors.
As for your performance issues. Put it to a single monitor resolution on windowed full screen. While theoretically that card should be able to run an eyefinity setup on this game. It probably won’t for a few months until core graphics handling issues are straightened out fully.
Well, As i have a lower end PC, I can tell you what your problem may be.
My specs: Intel I5 2500k @ 4.5 Ghz
Nvidia GTX 460 720/1800(stock)
Ram: OCZ Ripjaws X 8 GB CL8’s
HDD’s are junk, 7200 rpm simple HDD’s.
Mobo: MSI Z68-A GD-65
PSU: Kingwin Lazer gold 850W*sli planned eventually*
At any rate, with these parts, with maximum settings, I run 46-50 fps with no action, and dips into the 20’s with heavy fighting.
I underclocked the cpu to stock, fps stayed relatively the same, a decrease of 1-3.
re-overclocked that, overclocked GPU, gain of ~4 fps. The OC was 860/2000/1.025 V
Final Result: CPU speed has an effect, but with my system, my bottleneck is my video card, due to V-ram most likely.
Try turning down options one at a time until you see a spike in performance if you can’t deal with the lower fps.
Note: AMD’s are actually VERY good, just not very well utilized. Their hardware is much beefier than intel, but lacks the microcode of intel to utilize the power for anything but mass demand via :servers, video rendering, High multi-taskability.
On that note: In your case, it IS your CPU, as it is not being utilized to its fullest potential. Not much you can do about that unless you manufacture CPU’s :P
Good luck with your endevors!
