I know this is a gw2 forum but I’m asking it anyway. Will Guild Wars 1 be made compatible with Windows 8? It seems to lag extremely badly and play badly as well since buying my gaming laptop with Win 8 on it so I know my OP is its cause as GW2 plays flawlessly. Even though you basically abandoned your original can you at least make it more compatible with the latest OP as I still enjoy playing it.

They are not running any more major support as far as I know, they are still doing the automatic tournaments and events and stuff and patching bug fixes, but making it compatible with the latest windows probably won’t happen, won’t it run in compatibility mode?

Run it in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode (right klick on the desktop link to gw) . I had the same problem after buying a new gaming laptop. Now guildwars 1 runs smoother and with more detail it ever had in the past.

With XP support ending, won’t it be risking or put my computer at risk for viruses if I run it in XP mode? I have full protection but still.

no, not at all. XP mode just puts the application in software compatibility mode with the installed win64folder.

Its like a virtual layer inside of windows that says ‘hey lets run this application as a 32bit application using system variables as if we were WinXP with SP3’

there is no less security by doing that, as its sand boxed between your OS and the application.

I run GW1 on Windows 8.1 perfectly fine. Capped at 60 FPS (vsync) and no issues of crashing. No need to run it in compatibility mode either.
