AVG and Guild Wars @
IDP Trojan CB452937
This is the virus info I got from AVG.
Could this be a real virus that was in the update (and therefore all the other probs I am seeing people have) or is it just a mistake by AVG?
As an update, still can’t run GW2. I read the AVG sticky above, but that doesn’t not work for me as I have the free version of AVG which does not have the firewall.
Hoping to get some response here before I just uninstall the game.
Thanks.
AVG is known for having a lot of false-positives. I recommend switching to Avast. I’ve had no problems with any game using Avast (free version).
is there some way to fix it other than uninstalling and reinstalling the game?
Use a better antivirus software. Avast, maybe. Or anything else, really, because AVG is just plain terrible.
Avg use to be one of the best AVs around, well they let that success got to their head and turned into an overprotective bloatware piece of junk. So I suggest you completely uninstall and get Avast or just use the built in Windows AV.
put the correct term in but not everyone has kittens
Over the years I have not had one problem with AVG, so I hesitate to uninstall it because of a glitch caused by GW2. I have no problem with AVG with any other games to-date. I am more likely to just uninstall GW2 and find another game, considering all the problems people are having with it. Sad, really, since I have played all the GW games since they first came out.
basically I’d say wait a few days or however often AVG cycles updates. Then either try launching again or if that fails download and install GW2 fresh after AVG has had an update or so. Free anti-viruses take some time to clear false positive from their databases In my experience.

Lol… dat panicking
You really want to de-install a game just because a crappy, dumpie anti-virus told you so? lel
But ok, go ahead.
PS: I hope the next False-positive is your windows main index, that would be hilarious
LOL Dimos…. I have had issues with GW2 since it came out. In addition to system problems with this game, when I do get to play it I can’t seem to get past level 5. I took a 6 month break and started playing again – again up to level 4-5 and then this. I look at it as the game gods sending me a signal that maybe I should move on.
Thanks for the hilarity.
The simple solution is to just add Gw2.exe or its directory as an exception to AVG.
