Acer Aspire 5755G versus Guild Wars 2
the 540M is a pretty weak GPU. Spend the extra on a 760 or 770m
Laptop: M6600 – 2720QM, AMD HD6970M, 32GB 1600CL9 RAM, Arc100 480GB SSD
I’m askin about 540m.
Is anyone playing GW2 on on specification like this?

I answered specifically about the 540M…..
Dont waste your money on it.

All those benchmarks are running 1366×768 for the resolution. Any higher of the resolution and the card BOMBS.
In general, the performance of the 540M lies between the Radeon HD 5650 and 5730 in our first benchmark tests. Therefore, the 540M is about 10% faster than the GT 435M using DDR3 graphics memory.
Paired with a fast CPU, demanding games of 2010 should run fluently in medium to high details and SXGA (1280×1024) resolution. In our tests, for example, Call of Duty: Black Ops and StarCraft 2 ran fluently in high details and 1360×768. More gaming benchmarks can be found below. Demanding games released in 2011 like Anno 2070 or Skyrim will only run fluent in low to medium detail settings.

Thanks, but this question is directly to users of that hardware man. I already saw all these tests.

I have that hardware……

Look, the CPU in that laptop is OK. the 540M is weak in regards to other options. You are spending about 750~ on that Laptop yea? (I really hope not more).
Drop another 250~, upgrade to a i5 300 series CPU and a 760 or 770 GPU. You can opt to stay with the 720p screen if you want, but this way if you EVER want to run at 1080p (for ANYTHING, not jut GW2) youll have the power to do it.
GW2 is heavily CPU bound. But you need a modest GPU to drive some of the effects, and the higher the res you push the better the GPU you need. So please keep that in mind.
On one of the ‘many’ laptops I have access to, the one with a 540M is teamed with a 720p screen and a i3-2300~ something. When I was burning that laptop in I ran GW2 on it for a few days. Peak FPS for me was 35~ on ultra settings (Shadows medium, reflect on sky, Sampling native).

Awww… I’m fully satisfied on 1376×768 resolution and medium/high setting (Shadows off). Did You tested fps on these settings?
I’m buying this laptop from “second hand” and It is good opportunity, because It’s pretty cheap (<300 Euro)

2nd hand for 300 is a pretty good deal for that hardware in all honesty.
If your fine with the 720p resolution, then youll be happy with it.

And this is the answer what I needed, thanks mate.
When you get it, make sure you do a clean install/system restore before using it. You NEVER know what ‘other’ software might be loaded on it.
the update all your drivers.

Yea I know that, people often have some malware in their system and didn’t even know that. I’m gonna download the latest drivers. Thanks

Ahem.

Thanks for confirming what I said in the thread.
540M is weak if you want to play in res above 1366×768. Even at 720p you cant expect more then 40FPS.
in that video he was getting 24/25FPS.

It’s still good for what it does. Just play auto detect settings and in most cases it’ll give you enjoyable levels.
A friend of mine with an i7 2720QM and GT 525M on autofetect settings gets up to 40 fps. Plays good for him.

considering the age of GW2’s Engine, the age of that GPU vs the cost of it STILL vs other options.
I would not even consider a 540M on a new laptop today. Unless the laptop was 350 or less, like the OP is getting his for.

I wouldn’t consider a GT 540M in a new laptop today either. Not even a 640M since it’s a rebrand. 740M or 750M.

And this statement was my entire point :-)

My point though is that a GT 540M can still hold it’s own well enough to be considered. Though not as much as a newer generation but you know, it’s one of those things to think of if you want the El Cheapo-book

thats for sure, but only outlet or 2nd hand.
heck even my dv6’s that are rocking a HD6550 in one and a HD7690 and a APU (stock 1.5Ghz, OC’d to 2.9Ghz) holds its own. Rocks 65FPS at 720P and 45-50FPS at 1600×900 (1080p isnt worth the perf loss).
Just wish I could find an Intel MB for one of my DV6’s and slap in a i5 teamed with a 7690M. Would be interesting :-)
Paid 250 for the laptop + 125 for the 1080p matte LCD :-)

I doubt you’ll find an intel board for an AMD designed laptop. You’d have to get a whole new everything, so much so that you might as well just hop on Amazon or Ebay and buy the intel version.

yea ive been searching, and i found a couple options. but they are the cost of a new laptop :-)

I’d just buy the new laptop lol, always nice to have more than one machine haha
