After login the game crash - the new update
I get the same thing when I’m trying to log in also. I first received the crash when I went to an event in the Cursed Shore, on of the defend this place from spiders event near the penitent path.
Ok, I restarted my computer and I no longer get that error, however upon logging in as my warrior, I went to run to the Penitent Waypoint, switched over to my greatsword and the game crashed (no error log). and I can’t seem to get back into my warrior again…

Hi Patinka – Could you please post the full crash log to the thread for us to check out? You can find this by navigating to Documents\Guild Wars 2 and it will be the ArenaNet.log file. You can also attach this file to the thread by clicking “More posting & formatting options…”
I too am facing the same problem, the game was perfectly fine before the new patch.
Here is my log using the Game Advisor from ncsoft.

Hey there FireBat – I would like to make sure there are no other programs conflicting with your game by using a Windows command called MSCONFIG.
Please note, this command will not uninstall any applications from your computer. All MSCONFIG does is prevent these applications from automatically starting when Windows boots up. If you have any security software, such as anti-virus or firewall applications, you’ll have to manually disable/uninstall those. While we do not recommend running your machine without a security application, should disabling the software help resolve your issue we can reinstall it and work to configure the application so it doesn’t cause this issue.
1. Click the bottom left of the screen to bring up the Start menu
2. Type MSCONFIG and hit the Enter key. This should open the System Configuration Utility.
3. Click on the Services tab and check the Hide All Microsoft Services checkbox near the bottom then click the Disable All button.
4. Next go to the Startup tab and click the link to go to Task Manager and disable all items.
5. Once these items are all disabled, click the OK button and you will get a prompt to restart your computer. Please restart your computer.
6. Once you return to Windows, please try connecting to the game again.
To reverse these settings, simply run MSCONFIG again and click Normal Startup on the first window labeled General.
Note: If you need a specific application to run with Windows but still want to use MSCONFIG, just follow the above instructions and on step 4, re-check any application you feel needs to start with Windows. Examples would be wireless connection software or mouse/keyboard applications.
NOTE: For anyone else wanting to try these steps, these are for Windows 8 specifically.
Thank you for your blazing fast reply! Although I’m afraid that did not resolve the issue.
As I mentioned before, I had this setup and the game worked flawlessly since the day I got it. Only now after the patch I got tonight it started to quit on me.
Another thing you have to note : In Microsoft Windows 8, MSCONFIG no longer handles the start up items. Instead the Task Manager now houses that feature by easily right clicking the taskbar and selecting “Task Manager”. From there you can click on the Start-Up tab.
I would also like to add that this is the crash log upon launching the game.

Hey FireBat – Thanks for the update! Let’s start simple; I would like for you to navigate to Documents\Guild Wars 2 and delete the local.dat file. Next, please try the following to repair your Guild Wars 2 installation:
1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 installation folder.
2. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
3. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Repair.”
4. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
5. Edit the “Target” line to include -repair at the end.
Note: Please make sure -repair is outside of the quotes
Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” -repair
Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe -repair”
6. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.
If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 5 again.
7. Right-click “Guild Wars 2 Repair” and select “Run as Administrator.”
Allow the repair to run and once completed, “Right-click” “GW2.exe” or your Guild Wars 2 Shortcut and select “Run as Administrator.”
Once completed, please try starting Guild Wars 2 again.

I’m having the same problem and MSCONFIG and this method have failed me now
That happened to me in January, but I was able to resolve the issue by deleting the Gw2.dat file and downloading it all again. Not the most convenient of solutions for those with a slow/metered connection, but it was certainly effective for me.
Interestingly, it reduced the total file size from 17.4 GB down to 15.2 GB.

I would like to inform everyone that the last method of resolving the issue worked!
It only took 20 minutes of my time and indeed it found a few files to re-download again, and the problem no longer exists.
Thank you Ashley for your time and effort, a swift and effective conclusion.
I do the msconfig, I do the shorcut repair, nothing worked. I unistall the game and we will see

I’ve started to see this crop up more in crash logs lately and so we may need to request some more info from you. I’d highly recommend creating a technical support ticket so we can further investigate this issue. There should be a sticky thread that details contacting support.
Yeah I make a support ticekt but still nothing and I don’t know why , I only know is the new update ! Everything was fine before that. No I don’t see my character and the game crashing when the map is loading. I install the new driver …. and still not working
Windows 7 64 Bit,
Nvidia GTX 260
I’m having the same sort of issue as this (since friday when I downloaded the big update). Basically I press Login or let it auto-login and the loader freezes and becomes a big white unresponsive box. It will not even reach the character select screen. Something needs to be done here.
