For the last week I have been waiting to play my beloved guild wars 2 hoping this new patch would fix all my disconnects, lag etc.

NOPE!

NOT EVEN CLOSE

Its gotten worse now I cant even last 2 friggen seconds logged in before I disconnect. It all started last Friday when I updated constant lag spikes and D/C’s.

I feel like I have been scammed almost out of my money for buying this game paying for gems, and now I cant even play. EXTREMEY disappointed and angry.

Errors: Lost connection to server 7:11: whatever else.
Lag Spikes
Skills Lag

:(

I am using Shaw High Speed internet, Canadian user, brand new laptop I am yet to have an issue with it except the occasional not responding from IE9, Im running windows 8, 16gb of ram 1 tb of memory, i7. Everything else on this laptop works fine its just GW2. Get it together.

I can’t guarantee it will help, but i feel you’re near the point to try anything. So i found this in a post on the TS fora from a tech support from Anet.

“Hey guys, I would like you to try a new command we just introduced to assist players with these types of issues. Generally this assists players who have ports blocked by their ISP or are having connectivity issues. To do this:
1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 installation folder.
2. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
3. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Port Test.”
4. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
5. Edit the “Target” line to include /clientport 80 at the end.
Note: Please make sure /clientport 80 is outside of the quotes
Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” /clientport 80
Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe /clientport 80”
6. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.
If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 5 again.
7. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Port Test” and try connecting again.”

I hope it works for you.

No, sadly that did not work, but I love the help you were willing to offer.

Sadly more than Id get from someone who should actually be offering tech support for their game. cough

I’d appreciate it as well, if someone helped me, so it’s the least i can do. For the moment all i can offer you further is:

After that i’m out of options as well.

As someone who works in connectivity I would be willing to bet you thousands of dollars it has NOTHING to do with anet servers. It is your local network. You say everything else works just fine on the laptop, well let me expain how this works, when you pull up a webpage it pulls up info and stops. GW2 is constantly trying to hold a connection, so if you have any minor interuptions you get discconected.

Heres a easy was to find out, go into your start button/metro interface for windows 8, type cmd hit enter, that pulls up the dos prompt. now type in

Ping 8.8.8.8 -t

Let this run for about 5 minutes, if you see anything that says request timed out thats your problem. Now this can come from a anything from a bad router, to a bad cord to a bad ethernet port.

Also Im not sure of anets time before you time out, but when you run the ping test you should see pinging 8.8.8.8 and them a time and a number ending in MS. Which is miliseconds. For online gaming usually you want to maintain under 100, but thats for shooters, for gw2 im not sure the requirent, but if you start seeing pings over 500ms thats gonna be a problem also.

OP, you live in canada. Is your ISP trottling your internet?

Darcwolf, I did as you requested, my mean ms would of been roughly 40ms.

The highest it hit being 69ms.

So my answer does not lie there.

Edit: Okay I see here Darcwolf, it runs at roughly 40ms, but on one reply it will spike to over 500, and that’s where I will disconnect. Just once then its restored.

Any idea here mate?

@loseridoit
That’s not the case it was working fine for months up until last Friday.

Working /= trottling

If your connection is under load, your ISP might throttle your connection to reduce congestion.

It just like Darcwolf.6817 said, internet is never perfect. Your internet might experience minor disconnects often without you noticing.

Or, you can try and guest other server to see if it is stable

Want to fix your lag? Try BattlePing, I started using it and its made a huge difference, virtually no lag. Was getting disconnected every 20 minutes to the character selection screen until I purchased BattlePing and it really works sweet as! I strongly recommend it as its only costs like $6 or so a month for me and its worth such small change. For the price of a beer, a cup of coffee or a sandwich its worth being lag free.

I should have thought of this. Setting up a VPN service and naming it Battleping in order to sell it to gamers. Brilliant!

Battleping (VPN) might work for you. I have a Verizon FIOS Quantum business acount 75/35 with 5 static IPs and run my own VPN server. Playing GW2 on 3G/4G Networks with my tethered iPhone 5, I get more stable pings and much less frequent disconnects when I’m connected to my VPN server than when I’m not.

one tip I can give that can help is getting a router you can install ddwrt on, alot of routers…..well they have issues, ddwrt helps lot.

as to battleping and similar services, anet should just build such a thing into their client as an alternate connection method, so you dont have to VPN your whole net connection.

another note is, if you have a good vpn, ddwrt can rout all traffic via that VPN without each system needing to be setup for VPN service…I think its even possible to setup specific connections or ports/ip’s to be vpn’d and not others.(I know you can with the ver of ddwrt a friend of mine runs anyway…but hes modified his to an insane level so not sure if that functions part of normal ddwrt or not)

anet really need to offer something like this from their side though(like battle ping) that would help fix alot of the ping/connect issues, specially for people in the EU.

AMD FX-8350@4.8ghz on air(SilverArrowSB-E Extreme) , 32gb 1866mhz(10-11-10 cr1)
PCP&C 1200watt TC, Crosshair V F-Z, Sapphire 290x

A lot of good information here. Thanks for posting everyone.

There is a consistent thread I’ve noticed from each of these posts however, and it is that the connection issues have only started recently. If it is an ISP thing, why would so many connections from so many different providers have issues at the same time?

Can someone with more technical knowledge than me explain this? It seems extremely unlikely that it’s coincidence.

The OP is have problems before the update.

Currently, ANet is doing maintenance on the servers which is causing everybody to have lag.

OP problem and the current abundance of lag are two separate issues.
