Okay so let me start my story by saying I just replaced my processor and video card for this game and I’m not really seeing a huge performance boost like I expected.
Before I had: AMD Zambesi (or whatever it’s called) 6 core processor like 3.3ghz each and a Geforce GTX 550 Ti.
Now I have: Phenom 965 Quad Core (great gaming processor) and I just got a new Geforce GTX 660 Ti (a HUGE improvement)
Yes I get way better graphics I’m running everything on high except with the auto detect settings I only get 30-40 fps.
So okay I turn off shadows because I don’t need them (even though I should be able to have them on) and I turn off reflections, and disable FXAA. All of these I shouldn’t have to disable but I do.
Cool now I get 60 fps all the time (usually) even when I’m fighting stuff.
Except when I’m in big cities and such it goes back down to 30 fps so the 60 constant is only in secluded areas and in dungeons and places like that.
Now let me get into the main reason, WvW.
I upgraded just to play WvW without 30 and lower fps and guess what? NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL.
Even if I turn down ALL the settings I still get 30 fps and that is not good enough.
My setup SHOULD be able to run this game smoothly with no problems, yes I have the drivers updated yes this and that. I also have 8GB RIPJAW ram if you were wondering what that was.
I play every other game you can imagine with ULTRA settings and 60 fps constant.
I am also playing on 1920×1080 with HDMI cable.
Please someone tell me this isn’t my setup and it’s just the games optimization isn’t exactly finished yet?
Help?
EDIT: My motherboard is a GIGABYTE GA-970A-D3 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard (if that matters which I know it shouldn’t)

I know there are many threads about this but please take the time to read mine as my computer is the best one I have seen out of all of these threads and I want to know if it’s me or the game. Thanksss

I get your concern, I myself have a very nice system ~
I have
Intel Core i7-3820 (Quad Core, 10MB Cache) Overclocked up to 4.1GHz
8GB Quad Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz
1.25GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
all drivers are up to date as well. Yet I am averaging about 20fps, just now I dropped to 5fps during an entire personal story mission. If it wasn’t for the npcs I’m sure I would have failed it due to excessive lag. I am hoping its jut the game.

Hi Brandon – I can see no reason why you should be experiencing these performance issues with your setup. I might suggest reseating your graphics card to ensure that it is running at x16 rather than x4 or x1. Otherwise this is still an issue that we are currently collecting data on and looking into.

I have GPU-Z and it says the BUS INTERFACE is PCI-E 2.0 x16 @ x16 1.1
It also states that it’s running at PCI-Express x16 v1.1 but supports v2.0
I have no clue what the v2.0 and v1.1 is but that doesn’t seem right, I would think it would be running at v2.0, could this be a problem and is there a solution?
EDIT: After some quick research, I found out that it switches between 1.1 and 2.0 depending on the load, and I was checking it when I was not really doing anything, it switches to 2.0 when I have a higher load like when running a game. So the mystery is still not solved.

dont worry, there’s heaps of people with this issue. i have a i7 2600k and a gtx670. and exactly same thing happens to me. even if i play around with the settings makes no difference in big cities.
Wait, you went from 3.3Ghz 6core to 3.2Ghz quad core?? W… T… F…
Also, who the hell told you to get another Amd cpu if GW2 is your game? They need to be shot…

I love this game, and i am dedicated player.
But the performance is really horrible.
I have exact same troubles like brandon (AMD Phemon X6 1090T Black Edition + 4GB + GTX580 Tuned Edition)
Everything is running at max. performance settings (powermanagement + Nvidia graphic settings).
WvWvW is a real pain in the * – sorry. Almost unplayable.
Not only in terms of framerate, also how the netcode is perfroming (vanishing players close around and running into a mob of 20+ enemie players who spawn right in the face).
I dont know guys, i really like this game but i don’t see a future with this when i have done my Story and Exploration, if there will be no serious improvement.
Anyway..have fun. Cya around.

Because Amd blows for gw2 ? So wrong…Fx 8120 @ 4.6,and No problems whatsoever except my Sli not working properly, other then that what im seeing from the forums i have higher and more stable fps then alot of people with intels that claim to be high end yet run the game like crap.

Your awesome 8120 still doesn’t beat a 1055T@4Ghz which still blows hardcore for GW2 & pretty much gaming in general. How does that make you feel?
To add, it doesn’t even beat a 2500K@Stock in gaming….

It beats my friends 2600k@stock in gaming ,i do have to oc it to 4.6.I wasnt saying it to impress anyone,i was saying it because alot of people dont talk from experience but rather from what other people say or from what they read and mindlessly pass that info to other people .I know what this cpu is capable off,and its alot more then what people think.

@OP – Beware, the majority of people claiming they get 60FPS all the time are just misinformed about how FPS should be gauged.
Most people are either guessing their frames are “60+ man!” due to them not noticing the frame-rate drops, or they are testing it in areas where FPS is not a problem. There are many areas where the game still needs optimization and can be used for consistent FPS testing.
One of these areas is the Mystic Forge in Lion’s Arch, and the other is the main castle in WvW.
My story is similar to yours. I was rocking an FX-6100 (6-core Zambiwhatsitcalled) and a 560 Ti 1GB card. During the betas I was getting mixed frame-rates. However, the one thing I was able to determine is that the AMD chips are terrible for gaming nowadays, especially the new FX series. I wound up buying an older gen Phenom X6 (1090t) and it helped for sure, but still I had issues in certain areas.
Using the WvW main castle as a guide I was getting 15-20 FPS with about 20 people on screen. Lowering graphics to the lowest possible I only gained about 3-5FPS. The game is still very CPU dependent.
I built a new computer just for GW2. I went with the fastest Ivy Bridge (newest gen) i7 they made (i7-3770K), a GeForce GTX 670 2GB, and a 480GB SSD. I expected phenomenal results…
Not the case…in the same area of WvW – the castle during a small battle – I was getting 30-35 FPS. (CRITICAL: Always test FPS in the same area so you can have a benchmark!)
That’s a pathetic number considering the money that was spent on the machine, but when you compare it to the Phenom 1090t, it’s a 1.5 – 2X increase.
There are areas that just have horrible performance, hopefully Arenanet will do some more optimization to those areas.
For another FPS reference for testing: (Note: I’ve had to go back to my GeForce 560 Ti as my 670 was defective, still using the i7-3770k)
Standing by the Lion’s Arch Mystic Forge with a handful of NPCs/People on-screen I’m sitting at 42 FPS. Settings at high (except Animations and shadows at Medium)
The TL:DR – AMD CPU’s suck for gaming, especially the FX series. Top of the line new-gen Intel chips can still drop to 30-40 in the lowest optimized areas.

Yeah so this is def a problem with the game and not our systems, and to the guy that asked why I switched from a 6 core to a quad you obv don’t know what ur talking about if you said that. The phenom 965 is significantly better than what I had for gaming and 6 cores are terrible.
Hopefully they fix these issues soon because borderlands is making its way around the corner, and if I have amazing fps like I’m goin to with that game it’s gonna be hard to come back to this one with the performance I’m getting

Wish we could at least get an official announcement telling us that they know there is a problem and are working on fixing it, and possibly give us an ETA.

Lol Lucky you, you still get 30fps in WvW? I got same CPU overclocked @ 3.8GHz and radeon 5850 and got 12 fps in huge WvW battles….
I might suggest reseating your graphics card to ensure that it is running at x16 rather than x4 or x1.
I would suggest running a diagnostic to view its current PCIe speed rather than shooting first and asking questions later.
I have GPU-Z and it says the BUS INTERFACE is PCI-E 2.0 x16 @ x16 1.1
It also states that it’s running at PCI-Express x16 v1.1 but supports v2.0I have no clue what the v2.0 and v1.1 is but that doesn’t seem right, I would think it would be running at v2.0, could this be a problem and is there a solution?
Yes, clicking the question mark next to this gives you a render button to put a load on the GPU to switch to its highest bus speed.

When this happens:
Is your CPU at 100%?
Is your GPU at 100%?

I have a i7 2600k@3.4ghz NO OC, 8GB ram, ati 5850 1gb. Since 09/09/2012 all well at a stable 60fps, 45 in lion’s arch. After that date I have from 9 to 20 max max 30fps with noone around me.
I try all and reinstall all. Dwload GPU-Z e try the render bus option.
Program (gpu-z) inform that my port support PCI-E 2.0X16 V2.0 BUT with render it’s use…..PCI-E 2.0X1 V2.0
Computing option are : OpenGL and DirectCompute 5.0; cuda & physX are disable
?!??!!? Mmmmmmm

The whole “AMD vs. Intel” thing is pretty silly, imho. It seems like anytime anyone mentions “AMD” and “Gaming” in the same sentence they get jumped faster than a billionaire in a dark alley.
OP, I have nearly the same setup as you but have much better results in WvWvW. The difference in my rig is an HD 6850 instead of your card. I actually think your card is better. Anyway, my FPS tends to stay above 30 in heavy battles. Usually around 40+ (in heavily populated areas).
So I’m guessing optimization definitely has something to do with it.

I have ;
AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE (running with 3900 Mhz. with OC)
ATI HD Radeon 5850
4 Gb Ram
Getting 60-80 FPS in questing zones (Medium Settings) . But when i joined to battle in WvW fps drops 10-15 .
This is my last AMD & ATI experience. Always have the same problems, when a new game starts.

So any updates from Anet? I just got Borderlands 2 and I play that game with literally 0 problems, so clearly this isn’t a computer issue.
